Mostly About Cookies

  Annnd...the cookies are finished!!

Well, not quite. There are three whole containers of chocolate chip cookies, one plain, one with nuts, and one without brown sugar added (it was the first batch and the lack of brown sugar was an accident but my mom liked how they turned out and so deemed them fit to be served to guests) but they're strictly reserved for guests. Oh, dough worry, my brother and I will pinch a few later on when our parents are busy entertaining guests for Hari Raya but for now my cookie cravings remain unsatisfied...

Nah! I've got backup cookies! Haha! See, on the day our family went shopping for shoes, my brother and I went back by MRT while our parents went home by motorcycle. We stopped by the convenient store (well, it's more of a shop than a store but semantics, semantics~) under the block to buy some snacks and I spotted a packet of cookies. I was feeling a little bad for going through our cookie supply so fast so I bought them, thinking that they'd help me stay away from my mom's cookies. They weren't even a well-known cookie product like Chips More! - rather, they were GoodKiss Double Chocolate Chip Cookies with some brand called "Noraini's". You know how I mentioned my bad habit of judging a book by its cover in my previous entry? Yeah, that injudicious method of judgement applies with all the stuff I get for myself since it was mostly the wrapping of the cookies that enticed me. Like, the cookies looked so round and delicious and while I knew that the actual cookies probably didn't look that good (plus I'd never tried this brand before), I couldn't help myself! So I got 'em and when I went home, as expected, they didn't taste as good as my mom's cookies. They weren't bad. I just preferred my mom's cookies over them, which kind of went against my original intentions for buying them.

However! The good news, as I've found a few minutes ago, they taste a lot better after going stale! Bear with me here. ^.^" So after I brought them home, tasted them, and was put off by them, I was too lazy to put it in a container. So they were left in the open for a few days and you know what that does to junk food like chips and cookies - the air goes in them, they go soft, and they're still edible, but they're soft and not as 'fresh'. (At least, I think that's how it works. In Malay, we call it "lemau" which is when a food is not crispy. In colloquial speak, we also call it "masuk angin", which, literally, means "air has entered" so you can see why I think the process goes like that.) Driven to desperation once my mom's infamous cookies ran out (for us, anyway), I tried them again and hey! They were pretty good, even better from softening up! So cookie catastrophe evaded! Alhamdulillah~

Recently, my sleeping schedule's gone askew; I keep staying up late and sleeping from 7 AM till noon! It's frustrating, especially when I want, no, need to catch up with my studies. You can't do much with half the day gone just like that. Frankly, it's annoying. Each morning, I'm tired enough to tell myself that I'll sleep early that night so I won't be as tired the next day but each night, my mind convinces itself that it's invincible and doesn't need sleep. My brain's such an idiot. Correction: my brain cell's such an idiot.

I can't really blame my stupidity for tonight, though. I had to finish rearranging my Book Collection. What with recent room renovations, I'm supposed to move them from their makeshift space in the wall to a proper bookshelf (FINALLY). It took a while but it's finally done, though I had to remove four books to make them all fit. I don't mind though. Those books were definitely not my cup of tea and I'll gladly give them away to a second-hand shop. I found Star Dancer by Beth Webb pretty boring. I guess its prehistoric setting was just not for me. I found the pace rather slow too.

The other two, The Almost Girl by Amalie Howard and The Elusive Bride by Stephanie Laurens, were combinations of action and romance, but God, they were horrible. The writing was good but ugh, I hate it when they make the main character just fall in love with the guy at first sight and with no build up whatsoever! The Elusive Bride was a cycle of sexual tension, sex (which I skipped over; not a fan of engaging in such detailed scenarios), travelling, cultist battles (which were not very engaging), and repeat. The Almost Girl was cool, but Riven just started making out with Caden for no reason in the toilet and their relationship which had no rhyme or reason except for making out was irritating. AND ONE OF THE PERIODS WAS MISSING TOWARDS THE END OF THE BOOK. LIKE. I can let it slide if it's fanfic or an online work but THIS. IS A PUBLISHED BOOK. I'd be aghast if that ever happened in one of my books (assuming I ever publish one someday (assuming I ever finish the first draft (assuming I ever get past the first chapter))).

The fourth book was the first in a series, Changers: Drew by T Cooper and Allison Glock-Cooper. This was quite engaging and had an interesting concept but things started getting gay towards the end? I'm not about that life and since it's unlikely that I'll be pursuing the following books in the series, might as well hand it over to a second-hand book shop and hope that it goes to someone who can appreciate it.

The weather's been rather cool lately. I hope it lasts; I'd appreciate it when we're out making rounds to our relatives' houses during Hari Raya.

Thanks for reading! Did you catch all the puns?
