Singing With My Nose

Here's something you should know: I'm really, really, really proud of my voice. I mean, I really can't help it but I like it.

What I cannot figure out is why the hell is it so bad for me to sing with my nose!

It happened in the toilet. Honeybee and Maid were there and I don't know how, but we ended up randomly talking about my voice. Maid said that I had a talented voice (she also said that it was just like autotune, which is pretty good, in my opinion) but it was just...

Honeybee said my voice was good but it was just...

...bad. I asked Honeybee why it was so bad for me to sing with my nose. Everyone has been pointing that out to me and it's really getting on my nerves. Especially since some of them know how proud I am of it.

"It's like, it sounds like, 'Oh hey, Frenemy!'," she tried to explain, sounding like a cheesy American when she tried to make an impression. I repeated after her and it sounded exactly the same. But hey, when I'm singing, it doesn't have that thick an American slang! I don't...I just...

I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHY IT'S SO BAD FOR ME TO SING WITH MY NOSE! Even today, when I was singing, T.G said this...

"Stop, stop, stop," she said. I stopped.

"What?" I asked.

"No, you're singing with your nose," she explained. I stared at her and then she was like, Oh, okay, never mind...

It's really irritating! And kind of insulting...

Some people do sing in a nasal way. It is a singing style that annoys some people, but it can help with resonance.

The thing is, I really don't find my voice nasal. Or is it because I'm the one singing? And what's resonance?

It helps your voice sound louder, and to carry better. Why don't you record yourself singing and post it here. What type of songs do you sing? Some styles of music suit a nasal voice better - the nasal 'twang' is something deliberately done in some country music, for instance.

I'm not sure what type of music I sing. If it has an awesome tune and no dirty words, then I'm hooked. But lately, I've been singing Love The Way You Lie (part 2) by Rihanna (although, I've only listened to Ariana Grande's cover). Also, by record, do you mean in a video or an audio file?

But how do you upload an audio file? I mean, I know that you have to link videos from YouTube or somewhere else but I've never seen anyone upload an audio file here.

There are various sites that let you do it. I joined one a while back, but it's closed down now. There are bound to be others. And as you say, there's also youtube - you could just do an audio on a youtube video.

I've heard you should sing through your diaphragm that way you can hold notes longer and have a wider range of notes. I'm not a singer so don't quote me that's just something I've heard.

But isn't the diaphragm the sheet of muscle underneath the lungs? How do I sing through that?

I have a friend that does that. You know, sing with her nose. It sounds fine. If we're away, that is.
