So my younger brother left a mysterious note on the counter, in a sealed envelope labeled 'DAD'. I tried really hard to respect his privacy but I just couldn't help it. I opened the envelope and skimmed over it. My brother wrote my dad a letter asking...pleading him to fix his life. To care more about what's going on around him, to work on eating better and losing weight, to be more involved with life in general. Probably one of the saddest things I've ever read. I gave up on my dad years ago and our relationship has suffered greatly from it.
I came upstairs so that I wouldn't be downstairs whenever my dad read it. I was tempted to throw it away to keep them both from pain. It's only going to hurt my dad...and my brother when he sees my dad isn't going to change. I've confronted my dad so many times with the same situation, crying and screaming my heart out, and he just blankly stared at me.
I got a new envelope, shredding the original, and tried my best to write 'DAD' on the front in my sloppiest handwriting. This isn't going to go well for anyone, but I decided it's not my place to take away his hope. |
