BloopTOTW: Theme 296

12/17/2010

BloopTOTW: Theme 296--Write about your first name - why you were given it, what associations or stories are attached to it, what you think or know it means. Given the chance, what name would you give yourself?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, my name is Robyn. I am not entirely sure how I "earned" it as my moniker. I have heard conflicting stories over the course of my life.
1) My grandma says that she helped name me.
2) According to my mom's best friend (back then), I was named after her. I'm not sure how Robyn would flow well with the rest of her name however.
3) I've often wondered why Mom named me as she did but I will never know her state of mind. I've wondered if she saw the headful of red hair and was ornery. I wouldn't put it past anyone in my family to be ornery. Haha.
4) She did change the spelling from the more common way to spell my name. She liked to be unique. I'm proud to have inherited that characteristic from her.

No, I wasn't named after the bird. I do know that for sure. I have asked people about it. Haha.

Associations:
1) Batman and Robin
2) Robin Hood
3) THAT song (sing it and you die)
4) jokes regarding a play on words using my name (Robyn Banks, to be specific--and that is not my last name. Long story.)
5) Christopher Robin
6) the bird, Robin
7) the phrases "a little birdie told me" & "the early bird gets the worm"
8) any thing you can think of with the word Robyn in it really...haha--the possibilities are endless!

Given the chance, I would either change my name to Rebecka (Yes, spelled that way) or Consuela. I think the name Rebecka Consuela would work as well. It flows well, now that I think of it. Haha.
When I have to give a name to someone but I don't want to be truthful, I actually use the name Rebecka due to the fact that the R sound rolls off of my tongue naturally. Afterall, Robyn begins with R as well. Haha.

When I was in elementary school in CA, I had a friend named Consuela and I loved her name. If I were to change my name to that these days, I do realize that my appearance does not fit it. I look like the stereotypical red-headed caucasian. Haha. I looked up the name sometime in the past and I found out that Consuela means "comfort". That makes me smile. I love to make people smile and feel better when they are not feeling that way. I also love to make people laugh...even if it is at me most of the time. If it works, don't break it!

From Rebecka, I get the feeling of strength and joy. I'm sure that has to do with several of my friends who share that name. They are strong women but warm, welcoming, and full of joy. They are enjoyable to be around and are great to have as friends. They are people you know you can depend on to be there for you if you need help, support, or otherwise.

I'll end this entry with a question. What feeling do you get from the name "Robyn"? I'm not referring to how you see ME...just the name I was granted at birth. I'm curious what people will say. I'm sure Estella will answer this question if no one else. Haha. Well, have a great day. --Robyn

P.S.--Today is my 2nd cousin, Malachi's, 13th birthday. Teenage years here he comes! I feel sorry for his mom, my cousin Shilo. Haha.
