Rights of the Air Conditioned | 05/05/2011 |
I live in Arizona. It gets hot here.
That said, a week ago my wife had someone up on the roof checking the air conditioner as a standard pre-summer thing that should be done. Preventative measure. The guy said that the coil had rusted out and it would cost $4500.00 to replace the unit because it was so old. He took pictures and everything for his evidence.
Now, the wife thought it was a little odd, because she'd had a guy out to do a similar check a couple years ago, and the unit had been fine, and they commented on how NEW the unit was. This made her a little cautious to continue doing business with this guy.
I got to look at the pictures when I got home, and I had to ask "So, besides the rusted metal drip pan, did he offer any other evidence that there was a problem?"
We checked with a friend who directed us to his A/C people. They came out and said "Your Air-Conditioner is FINE. That metal drip pan is prone to rust, mostly because it's metal."
The coils were fine, the freon pressure was fine, the voltages were FINE.
You know, I sometimes get really pissed off when people try to take advantage of a woman at home alone. I get doubly pissed when that woman is my wife.
Seriously, You took pictures that DIDN'T support your claim... either you're a rip-off artist, or you are a shitty HVAC repairman.
It's guys like that who give the industry such a bad rep.
