03/30/2013

I've been traveling (technically) for 7 months. I say "technically" because that's how long I've been away from my kitten (La Puta). But I've been out of the states for 6 months on wednesday.

I weighed myself when I left: 166lbs (75kg... 11.8 stones).

Since I left, I've been:

  • working on farms,
  • working out at all sorts of Crossfit Gyms (but with no regularity)
  • running 5Ks whenever I feel like it.
  • hiking/trekking at high altitudes
  • carrying a 46lb (20kg) backpack all over Central and South America.

When I arrived in Cusco, not wanting to get altitude sickness like I did in Quito, I immediately went for a 5k run. It ended up being a 6K (I got turned around) and it took me almost an hour. (embarrassing....)
Then I signed myself up for a 5-day hike (Salkatay--about 20K every day) to Machu Picchu. The highest point was 4,650meters. On the 5th day, I climbed Wayna picchu (another mountain close by) the highest point was 2,950 or something.

I then went to Arequipa to go hike the Colca Caynon... Holy fucking beauty, batman! It was almost more breath-taking than the Grand canyon. The highest point here was 4,910 where I did 7minutes of burpees (because I'm insane.)
After the hike- I had to leave almost immediately for Chile. After spending 42 hours on a bus, eating crap (processed/packaged) food and not moving more than from my seat to the bathroom-- I finally arrived in Santiago, Chile and got to my hostel. I ran a 5K (finally at basically sea-level... for the first time in 2 weeks) and did it in less than 23 minutes.

I'll let you read that last sentence again and do the math... eh. fuck it, I have a calculator: that's a 7:30min mile. It's the best I've ever done, actually, and the best that I'll ever do in my life.
Tomorrow I'll do the burpee challenge again and on Monday I'll go to a crossfit gym and see how I do. I'm actually pretty curious. But overall- "Training at high altitudes = FUCKING AWESOME for you!"

    now: the weigh-in.
I weighed myself at the hostel. Who knows if the scale is accurate (it's plastic and in KG). but it read "68.5kg". Meaning I weigh 151lbs. Which doesn't really surprise me, because none of my clothes fit-- not even the new pants that my parents got me for xmas.

    Now... here's the trick:
Keep the weight off while I'm in the states for 10 days.
    I bet you 10$ that I won't. I'll gain it all back...
