Back from the ultrasound

I met Scott up at the hospital about 20 minutes before the ultrasound. We walked over to radiology and waited. I was really nervous, but my husband was as cool as a cucumber which is typical. We complement each other. We really do.

At first I wanted to freak out. Our tech was really quiet, which always makes me wonder if something is wrong. The first thing I saw on the screen after they took some initial non baby measurements was this big round pulsing thing on what I thought was the head. I was quietly thinking what on earth is that on my child's head?! But then the tech told me that we were looking at the baby's chest and that was the baby's heart and it looked fine. Oh. Big sigh of relief. There is a reason why I am not the person in charge of reading ultrasounds.

The ultrasound took a really long time. They took pictures of everything : the spine which was nice and covered by a layer of skin, the heart, the kidneys, the stomach, the arms and legs, hands and feet, the face, the brain, and lots of other stuff that I probably don't remember. Everything looked normal. The only thing is I may have to go back for another profile shot because my baby was facing my back and refused to turn around. They tried poking and prodding and even had me walk around but no luck. Everytime the tech tried to take one measurement, the baby would cover the spot with her hands.Stubborn kid. We also saw the baby scratching her nose and yawning and wiggling all over the place. They got one that was kind of at an angle and plenty of shots of the face and everything looked normal and they think they got the information that they needed, but if my doctor wants me to come back I will. The baby's measurements were all good and bottom line is that she is healthy. Praise the Lord! Now if I can just carry the baby to term all will be well.

And yes, we are having a baby girl just like I thought we were. Her name is Emily Grace. Emily wasn't being too active- she does gymnastics every morning from 5am-6am and kind of chills until around 11am. She wasn't asleep and was wiggling around a little, but her legs were not crossed so they had an easy time seeing what the gender was. Scott and I are both thrilled! It turns out Scott really thought it was a girl too, but was just saying boy to argue with me- nice huh? I told my parents.My dad was ecstatic. He wanted it to be a little girl so badly and kept insisting it was one. My mom was really happy too. I briefly talked to Scott and he said his family was excited.
I can't believe that I am having a daughter. I wonder when it will really, truly sink in?
There is so much I want to share with her.

When Scott gets home we are going to the Carter's store and each pick out something to buy for her. I can't wait to see what Scott picks out. I am going to love seeing him with a little girl. I have to admit that I already hit the Janie and Jack and Gymboree sales and ordered a few little girl things. It feels strange to be picking out clothes for my daughter, but I love it. Goodness, there are some cute little girl things!

As soon as I got home I found out that my aunt sent me another package of baby stuff. She is really excited! I got some awesome stuff- or I should say that Emily got some awesome stuff! At some point I will have to take pictures of baby things.

I will have to post ultrasound pictures when Scott gets home so he can scan them. For some reason whenever I scan them they don't come out right. My SIL wants me to start getting our registries in order for the baby shower so I might work on that today. His family wanted us to have it a little earlier than usual because we are moving in August and some of the out of state relatives who would like to come are going to be in Texas this summer. I am feeling a little more comfortable with the idea since I know that Emily is healthy.
