People in this play:
Laraine (my mom), Allan(my dad), Amanda(my sister), Robert (older bro), Jonathan (that’s me!), Justin(my twin), Lindsay(Justin’s wife), Lindsay’s parents.
Jeff (Justin friend from u-mia) and Jeff’s friend, also by way of u-mia Stephanie from NY.
Travis (Justin’s friend from u-mia) and his lovely wife Leah.
And eventually, Uncle Joe (he came for desserts)
Justin-Lindsay’s house. You walk into a den with a couch, a few bar stools behind the couch. (a half wall? That separates the bar stools and couch.) A chair and a tv with some game system. You go up stairs and it opens up to this HUGE! Room. Ok, it is broken down to 3 rooms. So first in front of you is an island that is used as a kitchen table. On the right of the island is the kitchen and the left of the island is the living room and behind the island is where the long dining room table is, so that’s their dining room. Off the kitchen is a nice size porch that they had extended from being 5 by 10 is now 10 by 15. Going back to where we came up, if you make a U, you go up 5 more steps to where they have 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. (somewhere off the den, there is a few steps down to where the play room will be and the laundry room is.) and they have a huge back yard.
Thanksgiving was beautiful and perfect.
Justin’s friends were all there when we had got there. The football game was on the tv so I sat listening to well, half listening, because with 8 people, it was kind of hard to hear the TV. There was all types of festist dips and crackers.
FUNNY SCENE: background… Travis and Leah met in college. She was a freshman at 17 and he was 21 in grad school (he is a really smart guy) going for his master’s in history at the time. Everyone always joked that he likes his girls young and although 32 and 28 is not bad, 21 and 17?
So Jeff and Travis were joking about how young Leah is. Justin put in his two cents as he is over near the stove cooking. Leah is there laughing and making fun of herself as well. Lindsay, who was preparing something, turns to Jeff and says “HEY! At least Travis has a woman.” That shut Jeff up really quickly.
Stephanie (Jeff friend) is this really rich spoiled lady. Her parents own some major company. She talks like she is blond but I guess she has some brains. So she is just sitting at the kitchen table with me, Travis Jeff and Leah. She was probably talking about her latest toy or something. I do not know.(when we had pulled up, we knew she was there by the lexis that was park between a ford and a shevvy)
Amanda shows up. She had just came from my aunty Sarah’s house. She took Jalen (little cousin) to her hs football game and stopped for a while over there.
Travis was saying that he doesn’t eat nuts any more. He had one reaction many years ago and although he has not had one since, he tries to eat things that do not have nuts in them. Amanda says in her … I am going to make fun of someone… tone, says “oh, well Jonathan can save you. He has training on the epi pen.” Travis says, “nah, I rather not even go there.” I said “it doesn’t help if he does not even have a pen.” Amanda said “well you can save his life if you had to.” And blab la bla. She and rob can say things some times that can be really stupid. *plus I know she was mocking me because when I did go for the training she said “you need training for that?” I said yes. It is required by law.” She says “no it isn’t, I have kids at camp who have them and if I needed to, I would just do it.
Dinner time finally comes. Justin is directing everyone where to sit. They had got this bran new dining room set that is nice and the chairs are comfy. The family was at one end and the u-mia people were at the other side.
When everyone is sitting Justin and Lindsay get up and Justin gives a nice speech about how thankful that he has his family here, and although nanna and par could not make it, I know they would have wanted to be here. I am thankful some of my Miami family are here and that we are all in good health and we all have jobs. (Jeff must have given him a look, because he doesn’t have one) well, those of us who have jobs. … It was very nice.
Justin and Lindsay made sure that no one got up. They were asking before dinner started if everyone had a drink and if everyone had salad dressing and made sure rob has a spicy sauce to dump over everything. He had made me and Rob stakes on the grill. (we don’t eat turkey) Everything was so good.
There was turkey, both white and dark, there was 2 types of cranberry sauce with-without orange. There was 3 types of stuffing. There was mash potatoes and peas, squash, (my mom made both the potato and squash) Justin even made a ham with pineapples and cherries. Everyone enjoyed. Justin got a call from Joe, saying he was on his way, but he got lost because of mapquest. It wanted him to go 3 miles down a road that only had less than two miles of road. He was very close but was just lost. Justin gave him directions. So he came in as Justin and Lindsay were cleaning up. Joe had a bit of the squash.
Funny scene, Joe thinks that Travis looks cute, especially when Travis had long hair. It is a big joke that has been playing out for many years. Joe jokes that Leah is Travis’ cover up. … Travis is a very affectionate person. He always hugs me when he sees me. So when Joe came in, he told me later that he could not believe that Travis was getting up … for what? … to hug me? And he did. I think it made Joe’s day.
Rob had brought along some trivia game you play on the tv. So after dinner a bunch of us went down stairs to their den to play. I really didn’t want to go, I was contented listening to the football game but my mom made me. Ug. (I hope you see how bored I was)
There are only 4 controllers so Travis and Leah, Amanda and Jeff, Joe and I and then Rob was, as he always is, by himself. So one person picks the category of the ones that are on the board. The guy on the tv reads the question and there are multiple choices. (but the game does not read the answers, just the questions) You select your answer with the controller. I think there are like 5 questions for each topic and the questions in the topic are read consecutively. I am just listening as people around me are cheering and cursing at each other. Most of the time I can not even hear the question. So Joe keeps saying “we got it right” “we got it wrong” “we are in first place” when there was no we, it was him. I was just sitting there saying nothing. How could I? I didn’t not know the answers on the screen. So I was ready to leave the room after the first time around. My mom comes down to play and she takes over I think Rob’s controller or maybe Amanda –Jeff’s. My mom says as I am getting up. “where are you going?” up stairs.” She goes “don’t be antisocial. Stay there.” Ummmm right. Like I am being social sitting there and not saying anything while people are just cheering and making fun of each other? It was boring for me. After that game, Joe gets up and I go up stairs with him. Which was a good move on my part. I got to the dessert first.
There was 4 types of pies. Blueberry, lemon, pumpkin (which I had) and Justin baked his amazing apple pie. Which, I was beyond full so didn’t have that. There was chocolate chip cookies which Stephanie made. Rice pudding which Lindsay’s aunt made and a few flavors of ice cream, including my favorite which I had to have, apple ice cream. Just the thought of it makes me want some.
Amanda was the first to leave. She came over to me and asked if I wanted to go home. I said sure. I started to get up and mom said, no he can stay. She whispered, sorry, I tried. So I am sitting at the kitchen island. So I am sitting there, not realizing that no one else is around because I am just listening to the tv and Justin and Lindsay putting things away. My mom says from the living room. “Jonathan, why are you in the kitchen all alone? Why don’t you come and join everyone else over here?” umm because I did not know that I was by myself? So I go over there and Stephanie is playing with her Eyephone. she had the radio on, on it and someone mentioned the football game. She puts the game on and walks over to me and hands me her 500 dollar phone that has the radio broadcast of the Giants game. (which, they lost) I am just amazed by this thing. Hmm or it could be that I am happy that I have sports in my hand. So I am just listening to the game. Jeff has some old tv bit on a laptop showing my dad. Travis and Leah were I don’t know, just laying on top of each other on the couch and Stephanie is sitting across from me on a chair which is next to my mom. Lindsay’s parents leave. (Lindsay’s mom is funny. When I first met her she gave me a kiss on both of my cheeks and says two kisses for good luck. So she always kisses me good by and hello. So she comes over, says good by and kisses me. Says something like “you like older girls, I will give you another kiss. And does. I laugh and smile.)
So I am just sitting there listening to the game and Joe says that he is ready to go home asks me if I want to go with him so he is not driving home alone. So I get to go home. Yay. … I did give Stephanie back her phone. So I get home and I am taking my wallet and phone out of my pocket and there was a rapper. I take it out and go over to Joe and say “I don’t know if this means anything, but Travis gave me a kiss.” I held out the rapper from the Hershey kiss he gave me before dinner. Joe was jealous that I got a kiss and he did not.
