All is good in love unless you are blind

09/26/2010

Thursday morning I emailed a lady on okcupid and we got messaging.
I am going to show you the conversation but I took out all the poems I showed her and our phone numbers. Everything else is as is.
It's not easy being blind.

Hi, my name is Jonathan. I am a Jewish guy. So of course, being Jewish, I love Chinese food. I love sports with a passion, especially baseball.
I am a mental health counselor and well educated.
I write poetry and hope to publish them someday.
I am effectionate, layed back, caring and a bad speller. (hey, I can't be perfect)
I look forward hearing from you.
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for your e-mail, what a great way to begin my day!
After reading your profile it sounds like we have much in common: 80's music (I love Bon Jovi however, The Police is my favorite), chinese food (of course) and baseball (expecially the Red Sox). Oh, and I forgot to mention that I was an English major so I also love poetry however, do not write any. And lucky for you, I'm a great speller...
Hope your day is going well.
I look forward to chatting with you.
Tammy

Hi Tammy, (is it ok that I mention I love the name Tammy?)
I am happy to hear from you.
That is so cool that you enjoy poetry. If you are nice to me, maybe I'll share some of my poems with you. hehe Early this morning I completed my 200th poem. I keep them all in a single word document.
I know you mention you work in HR, but spacificly, what do you do?
As for me, I work in a group home for adults with mental illnesses. I mostly run groups but also do some one on one. I love my field but I'm looking to move on from my company. It's not giving me everything I need.
I'll be honest, I dont know the police. So that could be a good thing for you. Maybe you can introduce me to them and I may actually enjoy them too. I was fortunate to be able to go see Bon Jovi open the new Meadowlands. I always wanted to see Bon Jovi in NJ, never thought I'd see him in that situation. It was amazing.
What other bands do you enjoy?
ok, lunch time.
Hope to hear from you again real soon
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
It's funny that you mention you love the name "Tammy" as I didn't care for it much as a child. Lucky for me, I grew into it and actually really like it as an adult...
Congratulations on completing your 200th writing. I would love to hear some if you're willing to share...and btw - i'm always a nice girl..l
As for my career, I've been an HR Manager for the last 5.5 years however, due to unfortunate circumstances, I am currently unemployed. To make a long story short, I recently moved back from NYC after living there for the last 5 years. Most recently I worked in Compensation for Lord and Taylor on 5th Avenue. While I wasn't very happy and looking to move on, I didn't expect them to eliminate my position and the entire dept. Needless to say, I lost my job at the end of January and moved back to Boston on July 1st. It's been tough to find work in my field as it's so competitive these days. I actually just completed a 2 month contract assignment and am in process with 2 companies for permanent positions. We'll see what happens. All in due time.
I commend you on your profession as it certainly is a challenging field to be in. I'm sorry to hear that you're not happy at your company but, am sure you'll find something new in due time. I believe everything happens for a reason and with alot of patience and perseverance you will end up achieving what you desire.
I'm surprised to hear that you don't know The Police. You must know Sting? Anyway, I do love Bon Jovi, have never seen then in concert but, would love to. I also love Aerosmith, maybe because I'm from Boston...
Hope you're enjoying your lunch. I should go eat something myself as I have yet to do so today.
Until we chat again...
Tammy

Good afternoon, Tammy
How was lunch and what did you have?
I had a chicken salad sandwich with pickles on the side.
Yes I know Sting, he was a wrestler during the 80's-90's!
ok, just kidding. Yes I know Sting and knew he was in a group called the police. As a big fan of Bryan Adams, I have the "all for one" song with Adams, sting and stuert. I have seen Aerosmith a couple of times and once... I GOT TO MEET THEM! They were so awesome. Especially MR. Tylor.
I actually don't think my profession is so dificult. (most of the time) As long as you have an over flowing amount of patience, some care, some knowledge of mental health and an understanding of where they came from and where they've been.
The end of 2008, the Government closed down the day rehab center I was working at. However, my company was bigger than just that one location so they split us all up and cut my hours. I am trying to find a company that will provide me with LMHC (license mental health counseling) supervision as I have done all the schooling, just need the supervision but my company wont give it to me. It's a longer story that I'll share in details later on.
You've been nice to me so far, heck, you keep returning my emails, I'll put a poem at the end of this.
Talk to you soon
Jonathan

• Glad you had a nice lunch as did I. I actually had a salad with chicken. Now I'm off to run some errands and enjoy this beautiful weather.
That's great that you've seen Aerosmith and met them. While I have never seen them play, I've been fortunate to have met Stephen Tyler while shopping at Saks Fifht Avenue in Boston. What an experience! i also saw The Police, 8th row center, an experience of a lifetime! Would love to see Bon Jovi, hopefully some day.
I'm sorry to hear about your work situation but, know you'll persevere in the end. Just believe in yourself and the rest will follow.
Thank you for sharing one of your poems with me, it was absolutely lovely. Can I assume that Stephanie is your daughter? Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and would love to hear more.
Looking forward to chatting soon.
Tammy

Hey, I'll be off to work soon then to dinner with my best friend and his wife so I probably wont be back on here till mid-evening.
If you stay around me long enough, I can garenty you'll go to a Bon Jovi concert. ... and many others as well as a bunch of sporting events. hmm I cant believe I have written to you a few times and havent much more than a few words about sports. I am trying not to scare you away. haha
I am glad you enjoyed my poem. however, I don't have a daughter, or any kids for that matter. A lot of my poems are created from my imagination and although you can see sprinkles about me and my life in them, very few are about me as a whole.
Have a good day
Jonathan

• Hope you have a great dinner with your friends. Did a few errands and then went to a nearby lake to enjoy the sunshine.
Concerts, especially 'Bon Jovi as well as an array of sporting events sounds fabulous as I love them all. Perhaps you're the man of my dreams...
Thank you for sharing yet, another one of your poems with me. Very cute, I loved the Smurfs!
Enjoy the remainder of your day!
Until next time...
Tammy

mm mm good. Hey, I just got back from dinner.
We went to Fuddruckers. It's my favorite burger place.
Work went well today. I am teaching my clients to write sentences and different punctuations. A lot of people with mental illness didn't have much English. They are pretty good with math though. So I mix social skills, life skills and educational things in my groups. I have one client who is schizophrenia (had to look up how to spell that word) add-adhd and diabetes. I also think he is a pathalogical liar. He tells so many lies that sometimes he doesnt even know the right story. He's the most dificult client I have. My clients have either bipolar, schizophrenia or clinicle depression with past attempts of suicide. Just in case you were wondering.
"perhaps you're the man of my dreams" MMAAYYBBEE. Only time will tell.
We haven't talked about religion yet. You're Jewish too? This is so cool.
Here is a big big religious question, ready?
Do you like your Mazoballs hard or soft?

Are you a movie person? I'm not really a big movie person at all, but I defanately have my favorites. I am sure you can figure out a few of my favorites. Field of dreams, hard ball, fever pitch (made about me) a lot of Ben and Matt movies as well as Adam Sandler. The kid in me loves Disney and muppets, Lion King being my favorite.
That's all for now.
I have to leave somethings for the next email. hehe
Latah
Jonathan

• Hey there! Glad you had a nice dinner. I guess this isn't a place that I'll be going with you as I don't eat red meat. This isn't due to animal rights but, the simple fact that I don't care for the taste or smell. That isn't to say that I couldn't be with you while you ate it, I would just be eating ground turkey, chicken or fish.
Thank you for sharing more about your profession. I definitely admire you for doing what you do. In fact, i would love to hear more about it sometime.
It's funny that you ask that about matzoballs as my mom truly makes the best. I tend to prefer them to be the size of golf balls and on the stofter side. Not to the point that they're mushy but, where they are firm enough that you can cut into them with a spoon and it glides through like butter.
As for movies, I defnitely enjoy all of the ones you mentioned. I was never a huge movie buff until I became unemployed and had some time on my hands. I like a vast array of movies however, my favorite movies of all time are Gone With the Wind and Casablanca. I also love Jimmy Stewart and Carey Grant. Actors today just aren't the same.
Until we chat again...
Have a great night and sweet dreams.
Tammy

Good morning sweet Tammy
Hope you slept much better than I did. As I am sure you have found, the lack of a rutine do to working so little throws off my sleeping schedule. Not that I was really one for sleep anyways. My body only requires about 5-6 hours a night. However, I'll probabl try to get a few more hours of sleep as I only got a couple of hours.
no no no, Matzoballs have to be hard as nails. You need a chainsaw to cut them. If they are fluffy, they don't have the full flavor. hehe
Sea food? illl groooose. We'll defanately not be eating off each other's plates. lol Unfortunately, I am a very picky eater. The good thing is though, what I do like, I could eat a few days in a row and not get tired of it.
OH, do I have stories I could share with you about my clients and past clients. lol Some would make you cringe and others would make you laugh and still others would make you sad.
I was going through some of my poems, deciding which I wanted to share with you today. I found a few with your name in them but chose the following one in stead. It's cute. If you know the group Everclear, you'll defanately see a few references to their songs.
Later sweet Tammy
Jonathan

Good afternoon!
I apologize for the delay but, I have been out since early this morning and am ready to go out again. I am actually having dinner with my grandfather and his girlfriend. Believe it or not, my papa is 92, still works and drives and his girlfriend is 73. He is a remarkable man and truly my inspiration.
Something must have been in the air as I didn't sleep well either. Like you my sleeping patterns have been a bit messed up due to lack of a routine. However, when I do have a consistent schedule I only require 5-6 hours myself.
You don't like seafood and live in New England??? What a shame. That's too bad as I love to share but, not the end of the world. I disagree with the matzoballs but, such is life. Perhaps it's a male/female thing?
I would love to hear some work stories, definitely another time. And I love the poem, keep them coming!!!
Well I must bid you adieu. Until we meet again.
Tammy
P.S. I hope I'm not being too presumptuous but, I was thinking that maybe we could talk via phone as I find it to be much more personable. Besides, I would love to be able to put a voice to those wonderful poems.

Good evening,
That is so awesome your grand father is still going strong. My grand parents, my nanna and Par, are in an assisted living and are 91-92 respectively. My Par's memory is starting to go and I think my nanna's is too but she is too tough of a cookie to let anyone know. It was my par who handed me and my brothers our first pack of baseball cards and turned us on to sports. I am forever greatful for that. They both walk with cains but all and all, they are doing not bad for their age. Hope you have-had a nice meal.
OH, don't apoligize for being out and enjoying the weather. I'd more worried if you were sitting indoors all day waiting for my email.
OK, I will admit, I never even had matzoballs soft so maybe I may actually enjoy them. It's not a male - female thing, it is a demographic thing. It's where the recipe is from.
I would love to hear your voice.
my cel number is
tata for now
Jonathan

• Good morning!
Your grandparents sounds wonderful and it's so great that they're still together. I'm envious as I wish my Boby was still alive as I'm told that I'm alot like her. Sadly, she passed away when I was in 6th grade due to breast cancer.
As for matzoballs you may be surprised. If you're going to try a softer one it has to be one of my mom's. If you're good maybe I can coerce her into showing me how she makes them.
Hope you had a nice evening and are enjoying your Saturday.
And I absolutely LOVED that poem...it made my day that much brighter!
I look forward to hearing your voice. Just in case, my cell is. I'm not sure what my plans are for today but, I will definitely be home tomorrow night. We'll leave it up to fate and whoever picks up the phone first.
Goodbye for now.
Tammy

Hi sweet Tammy
My day is going well. About to go out for lunch with my twin and his wife. I'm not sure where we are going yet.

That is so sad about your grand mother. My grand parents on my mom's side, I never got to meet my grand dad. He passed away weeks after my twin and I were born. My grand mother passed when I was only about 9, so I only have a couple of memories of her. My mom said that I would really enjoyed her father. He was a big strong guy with a kind heart but enjoyed sports a lot.
hmmm ok, I'll be good and you can make me some matzoball soup. Isnt it almost cold season? I'll need some soon. hehe
Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to my neffew's 2nd birthday. It's my best friend's son. His name is Holden, my neffew. He's named after Holden Caulfield because it's the only book my best friend ever read from beginning to end. ... Plus it's an Irish name.
O.K. tomorrow evening I'll get to hear your cute voice and you'll get to hear my monster of a voice. Well, at least I think I sound like a monster. I haven't found anyone who agrees with me. I guesss noone really likes their own voice though.
I'm off for lunch.
Later
Jonathan
P.s. I am petrified of needdles, so I'd never get a tattoo but I can dream and write poems about it.

• Hi there!
That is so great that you have a twin! Are you identical or fraternal?
That's so sad about your grandfather as I'm sure he was a great man. i completely understand as my dad's father passed away before I was born ans I've been told that he was a wonderful man, liked by all. As for my nana, she passed when I was in college due to cancer as well. Unfortunately, she was a very bitter, miserable woman that I don't have many fond memories of. Oh well, such is life.
It's funny you mention cold season as I've been sneezing all morning. I think it's allergies with this crazy weather we've been having or at least I hope it is. I may have to make some matzo ball soup fo

• for the both of us.
Sounds like a fun filled weekend with the family. What a great name and age. I have one brother who lives in Vermont and has one daughter named Lekha (pronounced Lake ha). She just tgurned 3 and is fair skinned, red haired. She is the light of my life as I absolutely adore her! I'm actually planning going up there this
• *
• I don't know what is going on with computer so I apologize for the multiple continued messages.
To continue, I am planning on going up to Vermont this Wednesday for a few days. It will be nice to see the beautiful foliage and to get away for a while. I definitely could use a mini vacation!
Well, off to do some errands, then dinner with my mom and maybe a drink with a friend.
Enjoy your day and I look forward to chatting more tomorrow night. I'm sure you don't sounds like a monster but, I have to admit I'm curious. As for me, I'm told by many that I sounds adorable, like a child. You'll have to let me know.
Thank you, yet again, for another great poem. I'm happy to hear that you don't like needles or tattooes, nor do I.
Until tomorrow...
Tammy

With Chinese food in my belly, the Red sox vs Yankees game on my radio and a bottle of snapple ice tea on hand, life is good right now.
My twin and I are fraternal. His name is Justin. His wife is Lindsay. I am very close to both of them. I have a younger sister, Amanda and an older brother Robert. Actually, Rob lives in the same town as you in a condow development.
Ok, good, you make the soup and I'll come over. I'll bring a nice salad.
A minny vacation? hmm ok, where are we going? hehe
Tammy, not that it is a big deal to me but I want to let you know that I am blind. Hopefully that doesnt scare you away.
I took the tests that you had taken. It's seems as we are compatable according to those tests. That's always a good thing
I'm going to get back to the Red Sox Yankee game.
I look forward to hearing your adorable voice.
Jonathan

• What a great game, they finally won!
Wow, you have a big family...I'm jealous. What a coincidence that your brother lives in Chelmsford. I was born and raised here and am only lving here due to my financial situation.
Thank you for letting me know you're blind, I wish you had told me upfront. Now that I think about it and looked back at my e-mails, I saw that you sent me a message back in April when I lived in NJ however, I never responded. I have to be honest, while I've enjoyed our conversations I'm not sure that I can date someone that is blind. I know this might sound shallow but, I'm just being honest with you and with myself. You deserve someone who accepts you for who you are and I'm not completely sure I can be that person. Again, I wish you had been honest with me from the beginning as you were in the e-mail you sent to me in April.
I'm not sure what else to say as you've completely caught me off guard. It's been nice chatting with you and I wish you nothing but, the best.
Take care,
Tammy

It's always a hard thing for me, wether in relationships, jobs etc, to tell people if I am blind upfront or not.
I did not realize I had wrote to you before however, it's a perfect example of why I rather not tell people I am blind. I get ignored or seen as incapable and I am not even given a chance. However, if I dont tell people up front, I am accused of being sneeky or trying to hide something. I rather someone get to know me for me but I guess in this case, it didn't matter how great of a guy I am.
I do wish you luck in both the job and relationship avenue

Wow....I can understand if she didn't want to date someone who's blind because of the added responsibility, but to not date you for being blind because she can't even accept you for who you are? That's awful. I see both sides on the whole telling the person up front or showing personality first though. Just wish your awesome personality would have been enough for her.
