hey, I had a realization that my friend Rob pointed out.
When I was going mad, trying to get info for the HOF and emailing you and John and later on, my friend Rob.
I was working off of 2 hours of sleep.
Here is a line of emails I was sending back-forth with him.
Rob: Save some of that shit for me, Â I knew you would start taking drugs at some point. To boring without em.
Jon: my only drug is sports and music Â
ROB: and LSD and marijuana and heroin and alcohol.
(I ignored his email. the following day...)
Rob: Hey have you had your pot today? Â Your too happy NOT to be stoned.
I will admit, my mind was racing, trying to think of ways to get those tickets. I did feel "high" I felt amazing. I felt like nothing was going to hurt me for the rest of the day. Even being accused of doing drugs, I laughed off.
As I sit here at the 4AM hour, listening to a live bon jovi concert, I had a realization.
How much sports and music is not only a part of our life, but is our life. (yes, I know the magnitude of what I just typed) And, how fortunate, lucky, opritunistic our lives have been.
This coming year, I will be seeing Bon Jovi for the 16th-17th-18th time since July 31, 1995. I have seen Blessid union of souls 19 times. I have seen about 120 concerts. I am fortunate and lucky, I can honestly say, (minus nirvana) I have seen every musical band I ever wanted to see. I am pretty sure you can say you are pretty close to saying that too.
I have been to a smidge over 400 major league baseball games since sept of 89 covering 16 major league stadiums.
If you want to count minor league and spring training, that's another 20 games. That is just one sport. We have been fortunate to see Larry vs Magic and Jordin. Kidd every single year and even got to see Dominique play in C's green.
I got to be at the last game that Super Mario played in Boston. (went with John) and Wayne Gretzki's last in boston. (took Lisa) I was at the retiring of #8 (went with Todd)
I was at the game that Bruschi came back (went with Rob Q) And, you and I and Todd, when to the 8th most memmorable ever game according to ESPN. "the snow bowl" And our first game, Dec 8th, 1992, patriots vs the 49ers. oh, and I believe Some guy name Gerry Rice was standing 10 feet in front of me during the warm ups. Which, brings me back to the beginning.
July 22-25 1999, was and may always be, the best 4 days in a row of my life. I always said that the stars had to aline perfectly for woodstock and the hall to be happening the same weekend, under an hour apart and we were able to go to both. We were, fortunate, lucky and was given the opritunity to do that. And now August 7th, I will be fortunate, lucky once again, as we will see my favorite football player get inducted into the HOF.
I hope that in 5 years, you and I can take a trip to Toronto, to see (goes to look up spelling) Jaromir Jagr's induction into the hockey HOF.
hmm did I mention that we were lucky to see Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and Marchoman?
And you got to see your tennis idel and some of the other greats with Joe and Lindsay and I believe by yourself once.
We are pretty lucky.

very good email. i am in complete agreement with you. i am at work and busy so i cannot mention the thousands of bands i have seen but agree with Nirvana,
a million percent, but not that they are at the same level, but because of a stupid bicycle injury, we have not seen beastie boys. and on the lines of seeing
the celtics versus jordan, we have seen Pierce vs LeBron. we have seen Canseco, Jagr, and I had seen Lott (on the Jets). and one that is very specialy
to me, and now has gone full circle, we went to the preseason vikings game at foxboro that was the very first professional game of Randy Moss' career.
and i have seen agassi play and briefly talked to him and i have seen Samprass play and talked to his movie star wife.
wood stock was incredible and i have also been to numerous festivals including warped tour, ozz fest, horde fest, lollapolooza, kiss concert and many other radio
station festivals. i have seen New found glory play in my fraternity house in front of 10 people and at foxboro stadium for riverrave in front of 10s of thousands
of people. I have seen juliana hatfield play in newbury comics (many times now) and saw limp bizkit running off the top of a boston building while police
were trying to clear the streets. i have seen drop kick murphys on st patricks day and the BossTones at the hometown throwdown.
Can I add movies to my drug list? because i have sat on the steps that ben affleck sat on in Chasing amy in New Jersey, and the bench he sat on in Glory
Days in California, and have sat on the bench that matt damon sat on in the boston commons for good will hunting. and i am pretty sure we have sat close
to the seats that were in Fever pitch.
i could go on, but i need to work.
