I was a little boy about 7 years old, my home was my entire world
One day we got new neighbors, I went over to say hi and there was a little girl
Her name was Sam, easy for Samantha
She had an older brother name Mark and their mother was Martha
We played and ate dinner, day turned into night
I heard my mom calling me from the portch, on came the light
I went home
Said I was sorry and just growned
My mom smile and took my hand
Said something I didn’t understand
“You can’t chase the night
When the night is over, the night is over”
18 now, I know everything
I’m in a band, I play the guitar and sing
One Saturday night I went to a party
I got caught drinking with my buddy Arty
The police came and took me to the station
seeing my dad’s face, I knew he had reservations.
My old man smile and told me to stand
Said something I didn’t understand
“You can’t chase the night
When the night is over, the night is over”
After graduating college I worked in computer programming for 10 years
My boss called me in, said he had news he wanted me to hear
I work hard and I’m very intelligent but that he had to let me go
My heart sank, I quietly said “no”
He smiles and shook my hand
Said something I didn’t understand

I am in my middle age
I have a wife and a kid of my own who I have to gage
My old man is on his last stage
Laying in bed, weak and frail
He was sharing his last tail
He was fighting it, he didn’t want to bail
I smiled and took his hand

I was suppose to go to seattle to spend some time with Nikki and see Bon Jovi this weekend. I have no idea what happened. I tried to call and call Nikki to give her my flight info since Monday but she never returned any of my calls.
I called delta and canseled my flight. They hit me with a fee that defanately hurts. 1-3rd of what I paid for my flight they deducted from my credit.
I was so excited to see Bon Jovi in Seattle. It was going to be the first of 3 times in 4 months in 3 separate states.
I was looking forward to seeing Nikki. We were going to have fun and I was going to meet her friends and maybe I was going to see the house that grunge lived in, Mr. Cobain's house.
And now? now it is all gone.
I am thinking Nikki's in the hospital and if she is, I hope she gets better but this still hurts.

Troy: Why do we inflict this on ourselves?

Ben: That's right. I mean - why? Because they haven't won a World Series in a century or so? So what? They're here. Every April, they're here. At 1:05 or at 7:05, there is a game. And if it gets rained out, guess what? They make it up to you. Does anyone else in your life do that? The Red Sox don't get divorced. This is a real family. This is the family that's here for you. |
