As many of you know who has been following me for at least 2 years and 9 months, a client of mine murdered a coworker of mine and it has been a very difficult time for me and everyone I work with.
Over this time, our company hired a lawyer on our behalf, we were able to accept or reject this offer, I accepted it.
We have met randomly over this time, in both group and indevisually to give us support as well as to keep us updated with the trial and what is going to be expected of us, if we are asked to take the stand.
Today's meeting, was a group meeting.
My lawyer told us the trial is set to start on October 7.
If we are suppoenaed, as we all probably will be, it is just a note stating that we have to show up to court. It does not mean we will be asked to testify, it will be the following week. The lawyer said that two of my coworkers will probably be asked to testify. Two of my coworkers probably not and I am somewhere in the middle because I hd interaction with the defendant.
The defendant had pleaded insanity which means all his medical records were turned over to the procecution. It will be up to the juries to decide if he was legally insaino or not.
If we are asked to testify, yes the defendant will be there. Yes the victom''s family will be there and the media. Maybe even...a camera.
Yes this may end up being a huge trial because of the fallout from what happened (as far as safety in the mental health workforce) however, there are murder trials that happen every day that we don't hear about so we may not hear much about it.
We will be meeting with the prosecutor on Oct 1, just to prepare us for some of the questions we maybe asked by him and what types of q the defense may ask us as well.
This matter alone has given me some anxiety. The thoughts has always been in the back of my mind. Hopefully in just over a month's time, the criminal trial will be over... |
