Doc APT = hope

09/29/2011

I went with my father to the eye doctor appointment yesterday. Spacificly, the doc was a conria eye doctor. He's one of the top doctor's in the world.

We got there about 10:50AM and checked in, has issues with the referrals but there was basicly someone not doing their job in at the Boston's Mas General but that was taken care of and they were able to get about 5 pages of of my eye medical history. My guess by all the nurse's question, (and knowing all the issues, sergeries etc on the eyes there had to be a zillian books. ) So I first saw a nurse who asked me for my history which between my father and i, we probably covered 70 percent of the details. She looked at my eye then put some type of drops in them then looked at them with some instrement. She then took my eye pressure with this pen type devise they place the tip on yyour eye and it "reads" the pressure of something. She left then 20 minutes later we saw an under study doc, He looked at my eyes and asked me more questions, then looked at my eyes with a light (which, I could see the light a little bit with my left eye) Used the same instraments on me the nurse did. He left and 20 minutes later, (1:32 PM) the doctor I was there to see, came in.
*side note, this doc has a reputation for having no personality and no "bed sides manners"

Doc: hi, I'm doctor Foster. welcome to (name of clinic)
my father: Good morning doctor. It's been a while. Jonathan saw you some 20 years ago.
Doc: (long pause) I remember you.
ME: you do? (disbelief)
Doc: I do. (in a tone that let me knew he did) It's been a while. You have grown up.

He went through some of the paper work and discussed some of the things with his understudy who came back into the room. The doc looked at my eye using the instrament and took some notes and discussed with the understudy.

He then turns to me and says the following:

for the right eye, there is no hope
With the left eye, with the stem cell research that has been done and continues to be done, especially as it pertains to eyes, eyes are in the forfront of stem sell research, so it's not just a castaway, with your age, (I'm wearing a red sox t-shirt) he goes "so you are a redsox fan?" "yeaaaa?" (no idea where he was going) what do you think are their chances to make the playoffs?" me "I think they will win tonight and make it"
(they ended up losing so no playoffs, but I dont want to talk about that )
"I can tell you have a lot of hope for your red sox.
If you have that same hope, for your vision, some day in your life time, there will be able to restore some of your vision. So just keep the hope"

"Hope: without it, you have nothing" (me)

That just brought tears to my eyes. That's pretty amazing. It's definitely a bright spot in the cloud that's been hanging over for the last 18 or so hours. *big hugs*

On the good side, keep up the hope! that's wonderful news about your eye!
