About 4 A.M. on April 19th, 1775, the first shot was fired in Lexington and Concord Massachusetts, signifying the start of The American Revolutionary War.
Observances and re-enactments of these first battles of the American Revolution occur annually at Lexington Green in Lexington MA about 6AM and Concord MA, about 9AM, at the old North Bridge. They retrace the route of Paul Revere, shouting out warnings as they go along
Every year, since 1897, the Boston Marathon has been ran anually on "Patriots' day". About one millian people line the 26.2 mile marathon that starts in Hopkinton and finishes in Copley Square.
Until 1969, Patriots day was observed on April 19th. To make a 3 day week end out of it, it is observed on the 3rd Monday in April now.
The Boston RedSox, as a tradition since 1959, played a home game at Fenway Park starting at 11AM. Assuring the fans would catch the first runners as they pass through Kenmore Square.

Until the mid-70's, the Red Sox played a double header, which explains for the 133 games on this date.
