home g1-2 and a fundraiser $1875

04/10/2011

FRIDAY... game 1 at fenway park. My 23 year going.

I went to the Boston Red Sox home game opener.
We started the season 0-6 and we came home to face the hated eval empire, the New York Yankees.
I went with my cousin Heidi and her son Jailen and my baseball traveling buddy, Sidney.
I felt bad, the seats were horible. They are in the right field grand stands and facing the Green monster (left field wall) To see home plate, you have to turn your head 90 degrees. On top of that, it was the last seats in the park. Last complaint, it was 41 degrees with no sun where we were sitting.

It was opening day so there was a fly over by F1 jets, draped a large US flag over the green monster and had the oldest living Red Sox, Jonny Peski, say "play ball"

The first 5 innings were pretty offensive heavy as it was 6-6. However, the bullpen came in, 4 different pitchers, and shut down the yankees while we got 3 more runs over the last innings. Our 2b, Dustin Pedroia, who suposively stands at 5-9 (said to be as short as 5-6.5) hit a home run, a double, a single and made a great defensive play. He put the team on his back caried them, with the bullpen, to a joyful and much needed victory.

During the 3rd inning, over the radeo I was listening to, they had said there was breaking news. Manny Ramirez suddenly retired. As more info was relayed, we learned that Manny was suspended 100 games for a second offense of being tested positive for a performance inhansing substance. Instead of being suspended, he'd just retired. Later in the evening, he responded with something like: It's time for me to move on from baseball. I am going on a trip to eurup with my old man
What a fraud

Sidney was driving me home. He called his wife to let her know where we were. She asked to ask me if I wanted to go out for dinner with their family. I didnt have plans for dinner, so I said yes.
I had not seen his little girls in a couple of years. He has 3 daughters. ages 13, 10 and 8. The oldest had a friend with her too. The oldest had a personality and her friend,, was even more so. talk talk talk and wanted to know everything. The middle was quiet. The youngest was always looking for the attention at all time from everyone.
I was going to get a burger but when Sidney's wife ordered stake Teryachi, it sounded good so I ordered them too and they were yum.

Sid went to the bathroom and his wife, asked me if I knew that tomorrow (saturday) was Sid's b day. I said no. She said she got a cake.

An old man came over to our table and said "did you hear about the man in Florida who threw his dog off the top of a ferris wheel?" "the mustard and rellish went everywhere"
He told another cute joke and then said "have a good day". The funny thing is, that is something that Sid's father would do.

The cake was good.
I tried to pay for my dinner but Sid's wife said not to worry about it. She said they had a gift card which is the reason they went there. So... I just said "thank you"

Saturday.

I had 4 tickets to this game for the bleachers. I was going with my twin and his wife. I tried to find someone to go on the 4th ticket. It was a Red Sox Yankee game and it was only $28. In totall, we asked 16 people and I got replies inculding: I'm working, my best friend is getting married next week, a friend is coming from out of state, I have to take the SAT's, I have a wedding shower, I have to look after the kids, and "I cant go" just to name a few. So I ended up selling it to a scalper for $20. not bad. I only lost 8 bucks.

There was a lot of Yankee fans at the game including a family of 7 sitting right behind us. .
It was their first game at fenway park and they were comparing various things with Yankee stadium.
We had awesome seats. We sat in the center field bleachers.
It was 60 degrees, the sun was shining brightly and there was no wind. It was nice. I got a little burnt. (or to everyone else, I got some color)

Unfortunately, as good as the weather was, the game was that bad.
The redsox starting pitcher didnt get out of the 4th inning and they kept bashing us. They got 4 home runs. When the final out was recording, the yankees had won 9-4.

SATURDAY NIGHT

My sister ran a fundraiser last night. There was a few women on her football team over the last couple of years who had-beat cancer so she wanted to show her support by doing a funraiser and donating it to a cancer clinic. I think it was the one which is associated with the Mass General. Well, it was amazing.

They went to the restaurant-bar which they go to after their football games and told them of the idea which they wanted to do and asked if they could hold the fundraiser there.
The restaurant provided a nice buffet of apatizers at a reduced price and a waitress staff. I think they charged $425.
And it just so happen, Budwiser did their own promo last night, giving away free beer.

The ladies on the team went door-door getting donations for raffles. They have collected about 75 of them. Including: Boston Red Sox pitcher:John Lester autograph photo from his no hitter, Boston Celtics tickets, Boston RedSox tickets (donated by me) and 2 sky box seats which includes all you can eat –drink, at a previously agreed on, New england patriots game(donated by owner of woman's team). Other smaller items, 4 free passes for the movies, 4 tickets to see charly sheme, tickets to see an improv, donations from various restaurants ranging from $10 to $100. Oh… and a box of 96 condoms.

So you paid $5 to get in. Then you would buy raffle tickets. There was 2 sets of them, red ones which cost 3 tickets for $5 or 10 ticket for $10 for the smaller items. There was blue tickets which cost 20 for 20 tickets , for the big prises.
Then you would take your tickets and put them in the basket for the item which you want.
The event started at 7 and they started calling raffles at 10pm.

Unfortunately for me, the music was loud and except for my sister's gf, no one else said hi to me.
But, the food was good. My family ordered off the regular menu. We got teryachi chicken fingers, onion rings, nachos and stake tips.

The lady who won the red sox tickets (which I donated) came over to me and thanked me.

Last night, when I got home, I sent my sister an email-text, just saying
"Good job,Was nice, glad I could contribute"
She replied
"Thanks jon! Glad you came. We made 1875"

Can you believe, a month from right now, I’ll be on a plane coming home from texas?
I’m wicked excited! To see the house that MR. Ryan Built.

I was so shocked when we got to the car and turned the radio on after the game and found out about Manny. I had to ask my mom to repeat it.

Our second game at home was bad as well.

I'm watching the Red Sox/Yankees game now

'Bout time Manny gets out. I'm sick of hearing stories about him being on steroids all the time. He's been caught so many times, but yet they keep letting him come back. Yes he is a great baseball player, but lately I have wondered how good he is now without all those drugs? Oh well. Hope he has fun in Europe.
