the date

07/13/2012

(apoligize for spelling, wanted to posted this ASAP) I wore a nice blue collared shirt and dress shorts. Even though I shaved before work today, I shaved again to make sure I looked good. I had called my best friend John to be my shofer but he was going to a batchelor party. So my father drove me. I was a bit…I was very nervious with my father waiting with me till she came. I was going to tell him that I was ok but if she didn’t show up, I would be waiting and would have to call my father to come back. So it was better that he was there. She came and my father saw her first and said “ruth? Hi I’m Jonathan’s father” (how embarrassing lol) So I said bye. We said hi and I kept my smile on my face. I asked for her elbo and we were off, following the hoastist. I was pretty excited that without asking, we were placed by a tv that had the volume up and I could hear the game too. (ok, so I should have realized that was an omen) I was nervous. We ordered drinks and she asked me what I usually order and I said I usually get a sausage dish but I think I’m getting pizza. She said that sounds good. She asked me what type I like and I said well, pepperony. She said she likes pepperoni too. I asked what she likes she said anything. So we decided on pepperoni and green pepper.

I am not going to recall full conversations we had but here are the things we talked about…

We talked about our families including where they live, jobs and other things.
She has one brother who is going for his PHD in Maryliand. Her father is going back to school, he’s going to Rabbinical school to be a Rabbi. He says he’s not doing it for the career just the journey.
We talked about school and careers.

We talked about our travels …her international travel and my stadium traveling.
She told me about her year in Izriel where she spent the first few months learning Hebrew. She then went to go live with a family and worked with children. She was given the task to write grants because “The grants are in English and you speak English.” I asked her where she learned to write grants? She said that she didn’t. She basicly just winged it all and did some research but mostly just answering the questions on the form.

She was serving me the pizza and she complimented on the selection of the food and the restaurant a few times during the date.

I learned one thing about her that made some of the emails a little more understable. She said that she never can make up her mind. She is indecisive. (no problem. So what I say, she’ll go along with. I’m cool with that or just give her a couple of choices to choose from.)

Ruth: so what do you think about this?
Me: About what?
Ruth: about tonight?
ME: It is very nice.
Ruth: I think so too. Would you want to go out again?
ME: That would be nice”
(at this point she was looking at her phone I soon realized)
Ruth: who are the Red Sox playing?
ME: Tampa.
(She then asked me the most stupidest question anyone could ever ask me)
Ruth: Would you want to go to a baseball game?
ME: yaaaaaaa?
Ruth: they’re playing Toronto next weekend. When I go home I’ll see if I can get some tickets.
(I think I was in shock)
ME: next weekend is July 20th, 21st and 22nd. Hmm do you know who Jason Varitek is?
Ruth: him I do know.
ME: they are honoring him on the 21. That would be pretty cool to go to that game.
I mentioned how I bring headphones to the game and sometimes I end up telling the perso I go with what’s going on. She thought that interesting. She asks if I listen to the games on the radio. I said I do but I also have XM radio, so I listen to all the MLB games on that.

The check came, I asked her how much it was. She said $24 (and change) I pulled out my wallet pulled out a $10 and $20 and placed it on the table. And said “that should be good enough” She said “are you sure?” (you want to pay) with my big smile-grin I said “YUP” she thanked me.

I asked her if she has a GPS in her car. She said high school. she had one on her phone. I asked if she’d want to drive me home. She said she would. I called my father to let him know. She put my address in her phone and then asked for my phone number. I asked her if she could send me her phone number via email. She said she would.

She got a bit lost, as she never been to my area…she never been North of Boston but she finally found her way. I told her about my neighborhood and how the elementary, middle and high school are all within walking distance. Pointing the the street the elementary and middle schools were on and the end of my deadend street there is a walk way which leads to the HS. I told her about how there are a lot of kids on the street and during the summer I like to sit out and listen to the kids playing.

She had pulled up to my house. She said that she had a good time and thanked me for dinner. I thanked her for the ride home. (I was waiting for her to open her door to walk me to my front door but she never did so I turned to her in the car and asked for a hug. It was a bit awkward giving a hug in a car but eh, it was still… nice. I got in the door, put the pizza in the fridge and went down stairs to call my best friend John who I said I would call him the following day but could not wait to tell him. Left a message on his voice machine then called my twin to tell him. He was very excited for me, and was just as shocked about Ruth asking me out to a baseball game. And as he said “that about sums up the date”

I know there is a bunch of stuff I misse like we talked a little bit about being Jewish and holidays we selebrate. She was telling me how her father “would sit in front of the tv watching sports and curing at it” How her father is a huge red sox fan and a friend of his became a yankee fan because his own son liked the Yankees. She said to me “I don’t think my father ever forgave him for that” and that he has season tickets to the New England Patriots. Well, I know that me and her father will get along pretty good and since she grew up-tolorated her father’s love for sports, she certainly will understand mine.

So… that’s all. I’m excited.
“would you want to go to a baseball game?”
