The night the lights went out

By Jonathan
It was just after dinner, I was still cleaning up from the mess
The kids were playing, my wife went to go rest
The wind was howling, the wind was fierce
Through the window, the winter cold pierced
First the lights flickered
The sound of my children screaming is what I heard
The lights went out
“Everyone into the kitchen” I shout
I carefully moved from the kitchen to the dining room
I heard the kids running up with a zoom
Fumbling through the draws I found flashlights, lighters and candles
Games and snacks, I got a handle
My youngest one was crying, she was full of fright
I let her sit on my lap on this night
My wife shortly joined us at the kitchen table
The oldest said he would set up the game, he was more than able
My wife set up the cards, setting them apart
With the Pieces and dyes on the board we were ready to start
The little one had a flashlight, she was too small
She was making animal hand puppets on the wall
Winter coats on
Bags of chips and pretzels were gone
Empty bottles of soda and fruit punch in the recycle bin
After much laughs and fun, my middle child would win
Ironically enough, as soon as the game was put away
The lights would come on to stay
Quality family time is fun
It’s back to the computers and video games, the children were done
