Yesterday was
kind of a crazy day. I went into work and it was fairly quiet most of the night.
It was raining off and on, but nothing major and there weren't any severe
storms. Around 6;15 the power went out and then immediately came back on. You
wouldn't think this is a huge deal but it is because I work at a huge research
facility (it's set up like a college campus, that's how big it is) and we have a
lot of stuff that could be affected by a power outage.
Right after the power came on everything went haywire. All the
alarms in the facility started going off, and our radios were still out so I
couldn't call the two patrol officers to let them know what was up. I did get
ahold of them and told them to disregard all alarms, and got all the alarms
silenced.
Then we have a 2 page list
of people we have to contact in the event of a power outage. There are at least
25-30 people on the list, so I was calling everyone up and explaining the
situation, and the people I couldn't get ahold of I left messages with so the
phone was going crazy all morning. I spent at least 45 minutes on the phone.
Then I still had to finish typing my Shift Activity Report and write another
report on the power outage, so it was a busy morning to say the least. I was so
glad to leave that office. Then on the way out to the car it was still raining,
so I got soaked.
Anyway got home, and
David tends to Grant while I get the older two dressed and breakfast. Then I
took a shower and he went over to his sister's so she could come over and watch
the kids and get our vacuum back. Once she got here we headed to the plasma
place. It was dead in there today so it went really fast.
Then we came home, and put the kids down
for a nap and crashed ourselves. We all wound up sleeping for 4 hours. We got
up, got the kids supper, then headed to Wal-Mart to get Spencer's gift. He wound
up getting a racetrack/rampway thing. Once we got it set up him and Vivian
played cars until bathtime and threw a fit when we made them stop for the night.
Our one complaint with it is that the pieces don't lock together well at all.
It's really easy for the kids to pull it apart, then of course they whine for us
to fix it. We're contemplating whether super gluing it together would work or
not. It also only came with one car so the kids were constantly fighting over
it. We did dig out a few more cars, but we're just going to buy them a pack of
cars, the next time we're at the store. Yesterday (Spencer's actual birthday) we
bought him a cake that was on sale at Wal-Mart. It looked and tasted exactly
like those Little Debbie Zebra Cakes (I think it was called a Chocolate
Decadence Cake). It was really good and we got some pictures of the kids.
After bathtime we put all the kids to bed
but Spencer grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch and wanted to cuddle
while he was drinking his milk. So we did that then he wound up laying with me
on the couch for half an hour before I put him to bed. After that I made David
and I Spaghetti and Meatballs with Garlic Breadsticks, and folded laundry. All
I've got to do tomorrow is put everything away, then I plan to curl up on the
couch with a book for the majority of the day and relax.
In other news David has found a new job at Subway. It's only a
mile and a half from our house, plus since I'm only working 4 days a week and
not on swing shifts anymore and don't go in until he 11 he has open
availability. He goes in tomorrow from 4-10 (the pizza place cut all his hours
due to too many employees and too little business). Since I can pay all of the
bills with my checks then we're planning saving the majority of his checks for
Christmas. So *fingers crossed* that everything works out well with this
job.
