Where did you begin 2008? In the neighbor's yard, across the street.
What was your status by Valentine's Day? Married and unemployed
Were you in school (anytime this year)? No
Did you have to go to the hospital? Yes but not for myself. I spent a couple of days at St. Mary's with Shawn's 1st surgery and a week at UAMS in Little Rock with Shawn's 2nd surgery.
Did you have any encounters with the police? Kind of. A police man was following me one day. He pulled around & pulled up next to me. Chris was in the back seat. "Cheryl," he says, "the policeman just waved to me!" It was so unexpected that I just started laughing. "Did you wave back?" "Yeah!" He was so excited.
Where did you go on vacation? We were both unemployed for the majority of the year. We didn't go anywhere.
What did you purchase that was over $500? Rent.
Did you know anybody who got married? Not this year.
Did you know anybody who passed away? Shawn's grandmother, Ninny and my cat of 15+ years, Mandy.
What sporting events did you attend? None
What concerts/shows did you go to? None
Where do you live now? Still in the rented house off Highway 7.
Describe your birthday. I'd rather not have another one like it, thanks. It was two weeks after Shawn's diagnosis and 1st surgery. We had a nice little party with the family at my FIL's. Once my SIL, BIL, niece & her husband left, everyone got into a HUGE fight with everyone yelling at everyone else. I hated it. I decided that I don't want a party next year.
What has been your favorite moment(s)? News that Shawn's cancer surgery was successful and that he was cured. We were on our way home from Little Rock, driving down I-40.
Any new additions to your family? Um...my cousin Eddie had his third baby. I didn't even know he'd had a second one! Our adopted outdoor stray, Mau, had a litter. They lived in our garage for about 6 months. We kept Mau and one of the kittens. We named him Smudge. We also adopted a stray dog & named her Perdida Uno, Perdy for short.
What was your best month? *sigh* I don't know...
Who has been your best drinking buddy? Believe it or not, I think I only drank once all year. Didn't get drunk though.
Made new friends? Yep
Favorite Night[s] out? Don't really have one that I can think of.
Any regrets? Not leaving the Vision Center when I had the chance. But then, if I hadn't gotten fired, we probably couldn't have gotten Shawn's Medicaid.
What do you want to change in 2009? Achieving biological motherhood.
Overall, how would you rate this year? "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times." No, seriously. It was hard. At times, very hard. It helped me find out who I am and who Shawn & I are as a couple. It strengthened my faith. It's become one of my best years, I think.
Have any life changes in 2008? Shawn started the year unemployed. I was fired at the end of January. Shawn was diagnosed with testicular cancer in May & had his 1st surgery 3 days later. He had his 2nd one in July. Chris started taking the school bus this year. I got my job in August and Shawn got his in September.
Change your hairstyle? Yep, I cut it off to above the shoulder. It's the shortest I've had it since I was a kid.
Get a new job? I've already answered this one.
How old did you turn this year? 34, again.
Do you have a New Year's resolution? I didn't have one this past New Year's but I do for the next one.
Did anything embarrassing? Not that I recall but probably.
Get married or divorced? Nope
Get arrested? No
Be honest - did you watch American Idol? Nope but I heard about it.
Start a new hobby? Not really.
Been snowboarding? I had bigger things to worry about.
Are you happy to see 2008 go? Yes.
Drank Starbucks in 2008? Twice. Once as a birthday present and again in celebration of our getting jobs.
Been naughty or nice? Strong.
What are you wishing for in 2009? A year full of health. And maybe a plane ticket for my birthday?
