Jedi mind tricks!


I deadlifted 265 tonight. What does that mean in the real world? It means that I can lift 265lbs worth of groceries... or a 265lb person (if they were stiff as a board and shaped like a bar).
It's also 55lbs more than my max last time.
ok- bragging over.



WHY IS A DEADLIFT IMPORTANT?

  • when you bend down to pick up your keys, you are deadlifting.
  • when you bend down to pick up groceries, you're deadlifting.
  • When you bend down to pick up a child--- you're NOT deadlifting-- you're actually "cleaning" (bringing an object to your chest/core). I'll cover that later.

    I like applying these skills to real life because that's where it comes in handy!

    Rules of a deadlift:
    -shins to bar
    -stand up straight.
    -squeeze your butt cheeks (this makes your pelvis go out)
    -slowly put your butt back (don't have your shins move the bar... you move your body).
    -your body should be in this 45 degree angle thingy...
    -once you are at this angle, lower your knees so your arms can reach the bar.
    -your arms are JUST ROPES! (you do NOT use your arms for anything except holding the bar).
    -grab hold.
    -engage the core/butt/quads.
    -take a deep breath.
    -stand up
    -pop the hip (great for sex skills!)
    -drop the weight if you can't return safely.


    WOD:
    Deadlift your max weight.


    If you don't have weights, do this:
    Holding a gallon of milk to your boobs, squat 150 times. See how long it takes you. (protip: wear gardening gloves).


    ANOTHER WOD:
    every minute, on the minute, (for 20 minutes) do the following:
    15 squats
    10 situps
    5 pushups.
