okay, here's the scoop on our apartment:
it's a 2 bedroom, on the 17th floor. it's about a 10 minute [maybe 15 with my short legs] walk to the main st. subway station or to work. the building's about 35 years old, and they've been working on updates. apparently the lobby has been redone, and our apartment will be one of the units that has new tile and cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom. the balconies have also been redone, with glass, and look great.
my wonderful mother was kind enough to tour some apartments for us, and ventured off with a list of questions/requests from me, and her camera. it was nice that she snapped a few pictures, but even more important was her approval of the place. i know my mum wouldn't let her baby live in a crack shack, but when she said "it's nice. i'd live there." i knew i'd be happy with it.
so, the super [who my mother claims has practically adopted me] gave my mom a tour of two units. she took her to a two bedroom unit, to give her an idea of the size/layout, and also to a one bedroom to show her what the renovated [new tile and cabinets] units look like.
first off, here's the floorplan:
decent, eh? i think mom said that our master was 15'x12', so the dimensions might be slightly different than the diagram, but you get the idea.
here are my mom's photos:
the kitchen in the two bedroom [aka this is the layout our kitchen will have]
this is the kitchen in the one bedroom unit. our cabinets and tile will be like that.
the dining room in the one bedroom. everything's backwards from the layout of the 2 bedroom unit that mom toured.
the living room in the one bedroom. i've come to terms with parquet flooring...
the balcony + view. this was the 14th floor, we'll be on the 17th. fuck yeah!
the balcony's about 20' long, which is awesome. i'm looking for a cute bistro set to put out there.
bathroom. again, new tiles and vanity. and no more fucking bane-of-my-existence glass shower doors. holler!
laundry room. i believe there are about 20 washers and dryers, so that's good.
oh, and here's how the packing's coming along:
and this is what greeted me upon my arrival home from work:
those are fresh flowers from josh's yard, partly to apologize for something stupid he did, and partly because they're pretty. they're sitting on a big stack of newspapers that i'd asked him to bring home so i can start packing fragile stuff. |
