omg guys, i'm going home SUNDAY! like, this sunday. 6 sleeps. 4 shifts. 2 nights of call. i am SO EXCITED! i was really hyped about this visit when we booked the flights, but the last week or two (especially since i got all sick and gross) i've been really meh about the whole thing. it really hit me again today tho, and i am pumped. tomorrow is 'round up the gift cards day', because i still have one to pick up for my dad, and one for josh's parents. that takes care of absolutely everything, and i can start packing. oh, packing! i have to wash nearly everything i own before i pack it, and i sort of like the gifts under the tree as opposed to in a suitcase, but i'm one of those weirdos who thinks about packing, lists what to pack, packs and unpacks like 4 times, just for something to do. yes, i need a life, but in the meantime, suck it.
on the sickness front, things are looking up. i'd say i'm a solid 85% recovered, with my only real complaints being an occasional productive cough [better out than in, right?], a nose that's still raw from being blown 80 000 times in a week, and a dry/sore throat, tho i think that's due to the weather/climate here as opposed to sickness. thanks to all the lovely bloopies who wished me a speedy recovery. i'm rather certain that i'll be fully functional and healthy by the time i head home for christmas visits.
i made a (mostly) yummy stoup for dinner tonight. it sprang from a rachel recipe, but you'd never know it from the final product. it was mostly an activity in cleaning out the fridge, and a rather successful one at that. pieces of sausage, carrots, red peppers, broccoli, spinach, and fresh vegetable-filled pasta [fagettini, i believe] in a chicken + tomato broth with just the right seasonings. i'll definitely use the same idea again, but sub in a different type of pasta [likely cheese ravioli] and another meat [spicier sausage maybe, or chicken]. after being so terribly lazy in the kitchen [i.e. lipton soup or takeout] this past week, it felt really nice to put some effort into something.
also food related: dill popcorn is so delicious. and really, yanks, how do y'all manage down there without ketchup chips? it's a travesty. |
