NYX Mega Shine Lip gloss

04/28/2010

Product: NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss
Cost: $5.99 at Ulta
Rating: 4 Stars

Don't judge me too harshly for what I'm about to admit. Today was the first time I ever went to Ulta. I know, I know! How could I have lived without Ulta?! I really don't know, to be honest. Fortunatley there is one about 30 minutes away from my house now so I can finally start shopping there!

Today I picked up some NYX Mega Shine Lip glosses. As a fan of MAC I typically expect a really good lip gloss to cost upwards of $14. I have heard so many wonderful things about NYX, though, that I decided to give it a try. I picked up three of them- Pink Frost, French Kiss and La-La. Ulta was having a sale where you could buy 2 NYX products and get a 3rd one free, so altogether these cost $12.89 or something like that.

Here are my initial reactions:

Packaging: Adorable! The caps have little bows in the plastic. The container is square and quite a bit larger than a MAC lip gloss. The front is really simple- it only has the name of the company on the front. I like this because you're able to see the product really well.

Applicator: This is a big one for me. I really like brushes- like what you get with a MAC Lustreglass. The NYX lip gloss has a bent doe foot applicator. Normally I would hate this, but for some reason I don't hate it. It is annoying putting it back into the container, though. I hate getting product on the side of the bottle, but not a lot transfers if it bumps into the side (I don't know if that made ANY sense whatsoever lol).

Color: The color selection could be better, I think. They mostly have pinks and nudes, which is fine for me, because that's all I buy. However, if you were looking for something a little more daring you might want to look elsewhere.
As far as color pay off, I'm SO impressed! The first thing I noticed when I applied Pink Frost (I believe), was just how pigmented it is! When I was finished applying it, it almost looked like a lipstick with a gloss over top. I had to rub some off to get it to be a little more subtle.

Scent: It smells like cherries!! No lie! When I opened it I automatically thought of the cherry Laffy Taffy (I love that candy!). This can be good and bad. For example, I was with a friend when I bought these and she's allergic to even just the scent of cherries. So, she stayed far away from the stuff. haha For me, though, I really like it!

Stickiness: I haven't noticed it being sticky at all. It's actually really smooth. I can put it on without a chapstick and it doesn't feel sticky at all!

Overall impressions: I would like more colors to choose from and a different applicator, but the actual product is absolutely wonderful. I am a huge fan! I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I actually like them better than MAC so far! I definitely recommend trying these out!
