Queen Helene's Mint Julep Masque

01/09/2010

Product: Queen Helene's Mint Julep Masque
Cost: $3.99 at Walgreens
Rating: Five stars!!!!

This is by far the most amazing mask I've ever used. I saw this product in many videos on Youtube and everyone raved about it. I also saw many positive reviews on Makeup Alley. Having my fair share of blemishes I decided to try it out. I could not find it at either CVS or Wal Mart, so I resorted to Walgreens, which is rather far away from my house. I probably spent more on gas than I did on this product.

Before I used it, I smelled it and was immediately in love with it, as shallow as that sounds. It smells amazing! It's minty, but it's definitely a sweet minty. Some compare it to toothpaste. It reminds me of being a little kid, though, because my mom used to chew the light blue Trident and that's exactly what this product smells like. It's heavenly and certainly not overpowering.

My first step was to cleanse my face. I typically use Clinique's Acne Solutions cleanser. I was afraid that it would be too harsh combined with the mask. I used my Clinique 3 Step System cleanser instead. If you don't have this I suggest Aveeno's gentle foaming cleanser. It's an exceptional cleanser and relatively cheap.

Having heard that there was a stinging sensation when first applying the product, I was a bit weary. However there was no need to be. I felt no such tingling. It felt a bit cool, but nothing unpleasant. I applied an even, thin layer. By thin I mean that it was caked on, but it did cover up my skin.

After waiting the suggested 15 minutes I washed off my face with warm water. Be sure to use warm water. If you use cold water it will not come off (at least not as easily). I then applied my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel (can you tell what my favorite brand is? lol). Typically at night I like to use the Acne Solutions moisturizer, however it contains 2.5% salicylic acid. My face was already dry, so I decided not to use that one.

I didn't expect to see results at all. I assumed it would take a couple of applications over the course of a few weeks to see any sort of results. To my pleasant surprise, though, I noticed results the very next morning!!! The redness on my face had subsided and my scarring appeared lighter. After one use! I was shocked and ecstatic.

I highly reccomend this product to anyone who has difficult skin. Even to those people who have flawless skin. It makes your face feel unbelievably soft. It gets rid of any oil on your face (you can actually see little spots of oil on your face once the mask has dried!) and leaves you with smooth, gorgeous skin.

I'm not sure if I need to have an FTC disclaimer, but I'm going to throw it in here anyway. Gotta cover my back. I am not affiliated with any company mentioned, I was not sent any of these products and this is my honest opinion.
