Summer Makeup Series #1

05/31/2010

Happy summer!
Yes, to me it's pretty much a holiday. lol
I've decided to start a summer makeup series all about my favorite makeup items to wear in the summer and kind of compare different products.

Summer to me signals a time to relax (despite the fact that I take classes every summer lol). It's also a time when I don't want to apply heavy foundation every single day. Today's entry is going to be all about powders and one mineral foundation.

First I've recently fallen in love with the MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural. I had wanted to buy this product for months and I finally bit the bullet and bought it a couple weeks ago. It is the perfect powder to wear in the summer. It's extremely light and gives a tiny bit of coverage. Paired with your favorite concealer you will look awesome and feel great all summer. You don't have to worry about it melting off your face either. Although, if you're going to lay out and tan for over 30 minutes it probably will melt off. lol

Another powder I really enjoy is Clinique's Stay Matte Sheer Pressed Powder (why does Clinique always have incredibly long names for their products?! lol). It is pretty much a slightly more pigmented version fo the MAC MSF Natural. I personally have to use this sparingly because it can often make me look jaundiced, because of my yellow undertones (not a good look lol).

To correct the yellow from the Clinique powder I like to pair it with a MAC Beauty Powder. Mine is from the Hello Kitty collections and it's in Pretty Baby, but any powder with a pink or blue undertone works. You could even use a lightly pigmented blush if you don't have a beauty powder.

I realize that these products are somewhat expensive and I apologize for that. I don't like to only show "high end" products. My problem is that about a month ago I stopped buying makeup products that are tested on animals which eliminates a lot of drugstore brands (L'oreal, Maybelline, Neutrogena, etc). However, I do have the Revlon Colorstay Mineral Foundation!

This foundation works exactly like the MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural. It even comes with it's own little kabuki brush on the cap. It's not the world's greatest brush, but it gets the job done. I actually used the brush it comes with one day and my own MAC kabuki brush the next day and I liked the way it looked with the Revlon one a lot better. It gives minimal coverage, which is to be expected, but if you wear concealer underneath you're good to go! My only problem with it is that the packaging is quite large and takes up a lot of room in your makeup bag.

So there you have it. A quick review of my favorite powders/mineral foundation. If you know of any other really great ones please leave a comment and let me know! I'm always on the look out for new products!
