hm.
i really wish people would stop thinking about everything in terms of race/sexual orientation/religious beliefs/what have you and would stop trying to stick people in neat little boxes with labels on them.
not everyone thinks in terms of race, sexual orientation, politics, etc. i think that if you view everything like that, then of course it's going to be there sometimes because you know what? some people are racist, some people hate the gays, some people hate people in wheel chairs (trust me) but not everyone does. just because one straight person hates gay people doesn't mean they all do, you know?
if there is one thing i've learned from adam lambert, it's that no matter your skin color, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, whatever your issues are, we're all still just humans and we all have feelings (if you're a douche, i'm going to tell you regardless of what color or gender you are) - but. just because i read something and liked it and didn't find it offensive, doesn't mean that i am a racist or a horrible person. people have to stop thinking in terms of race and stuff because as long as you do, of course there's still going to be hate because people are thinking "okay, this is how you're different than me" and focus on that. aren't the differences supposedly what make people unique. i think that is really the only way we're ever going to get anywhere - if we stop focusing on the differences of people as if they're a bad thing. i'm not belittling anything here. i'm well aware of african american history/history in general and what people have fought for, i get it and i am grateful - i'm just saying, everyone gets discriminated against for something and the only way it will stop, i think, is if we stop focusing on the differences because like i said, if we keep pointing it out and drawing attention to it, of freaking course it's going to be there because that right there is giving a person a chance to stand up and say "yeah, well, i don't like it" and even if i person wasn't given the chance, chances are that some dillhole is going to stand up and say it anyway, so why focus on it? why not just say "oh. so you're mexican/gay/white/purple with polka dots? AWESOME." and move on. let people live their lives. because i didn't find it offensive and don't think in terms of sticking labels on people/sticking them in little neat boxes - i can't figure out if that makes me the narrow-minded person. maybe it does. maybe i am a complete asshole, and heartless because i didn't find a fictional story upsetting. maybe it has to do with growing up in in wheel chair and being different than everyone else automatically. believe me, if i got offended at every little thing, i'd not be able to function because i get called retarded, i get stared at, i get laughed at, but it doesn't really offend me. my cousins, tori and steven, they love me to death and call me retarded (in joking ways) all the time and people look at them like they're the meanest people ever sometimes, but they're not. they don't do it to be offensive and i know that (my father, he's a different story). i know the differences.
i saw a comment that was like "white people don't know any better" in regards to what i read yesterday and i thought to myself "really? those kind of comments are okay though because someone of color said it?" i mean, seriously? no, not to me. stop thinking that way, then maybe we'll actually get somewhere in the world.
