Thanksmas

11/24/2012

I DID IT! I cooked a full Thanksgiving spread all by myself. The foods had to be chosen carefully. The only vegetable my daughter will eat is corn. So I HAD to make corn. I had to use a pork sausage that I don't approve of because my aunt picked it up for me. Not only did it change the traditional taste of my grandmother's stuffing, it is an off brand of a company (Smithfield) that I have been boycotting for the last 9 years. Mashed potatoes (8 lbs or so), sweet potato mash w/ marshmallows (of course)...I made a dish of green bean cassarole which is not a staple of my familys Tday dinner, but it is my husbands so I put it in there for him and everyone liked it. I also made mashed turnips, which is a tradition in my family but my husband had never heard of them before he married me. He loves them now. I also made my first ever pumpkin pie from scratch and it was awesome.
My aunt and uncle came and ate. Much to my relief, the in-laws couldn't make it. I invited my friend who would have had nowhere else to go. We all got along and had a great day. It was also beautiful outside, so we turned off the heater and opened all of the kitchen windows. I wrote a few chapters of the book. Did some tattoos. I have been feeling very artsy lately and there is a shop 30 miles from here that is looking for a new artist.... My car is almost road worthy (about 400 bucks away) and I can hopefully get employed somewhere. My daughter is having her birthday at chuckEcheese again this year. money flying out the window. But whatever. I just want her to be happy. She asked if she could have it there so I said if she was good...well it's happening anyway. I would really like to make my own yearly tradition of combining Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yes, I will call it Thanksmas and we can all eat and exchange presents all on the same day. No black Friday or Santa. I will not pay hundreds of dollars on toys, only to give the credit to some fat guy with some tiny friends. You can give the gift to your child and say "I bought this gift for you with my hard earned money. Now be grateful." Then we can all eat left overs until New Years. Yay.
Well Happy late Thanksgiving to everyone, and I will be back here before Xmas. See ya then!
