The mere suggestion our government would allow any unsafe programs to
exist, sparks anger and can label a person a terrorist in America. All
of this in the wake of discovering the harmful effects of Genetically
Modified Organisms in our food. The USDA has done nothing but help aid
the use of “Round-Up Ready” crops despite the fact it threatens the
rights of American farmers and consumers, as well as damage the
environment. When I speak of this subject the reaction from most is that
these programs are for our protection and necessary to feed the world
population. Others have taken alarm trying to insist that produce be
free of modification, or growing gardens on their property and try to
control the amount of chemicals used in their produce. In my home state
of Michigan, Julie Bass faces jail time for the placement of her organic
vegetable garden.
