So, I had been wanting to try the Oscillation vibrating mascara by Lancome, just to see what a moving wand would do to my lashes, but a $40 price tag for a product that I'd throw out after a few months just seemed *too* extravagant for my wallet. So, imagine my thrill when Maybelline announced a similar product, with a more affordable price tag ($12.99, which, yes, I agree is HIGH for a drugstore mascara, but keep in mind that drugstores and places like Target are constantly doing sales! I got mine @ a drugstore for $8, so keep looking if you're wanting to try it but are put off by the cost!)
Now, provided that I've never tried Oscillation, I can't do a comparison of the Maybelline to the Lancome, but I can do a stand-alone review, as well as a quick comparison with my current go-to Mascara, which is the L'oreal Ultra Volume Collagene (although I do have a few other faves, as I've mentioned in previous entries.
Anyways, with this mascara, you need to make sure to keep your finger on the button on the cap, near the bottom side of your brush opposite the wand, which can be tricky at first. And, my initial thought was that, wow, this is a really shallow vibration, just pulsing the very ends of the handle, which would seemingly offer nothing to the brush. So, what's the point?
But, I gave it a try, and I'm so glad I do, because I LOVE this mascara! I used the blackest black, which gave an amazing dose of color to my lashes. It was also very lengthening (although not quite as much as my Rimmel Lycra Lash) and fairly thickening (although not as much as my L'oreal Collagene), but when I did one eye with Maybelline and one eye with the L'oreal, I did notice an interesting reversal when it came to longevity. Yes, initially, the L'oreal eye looked fuller (although not darker), but when I checked back at the end of the day, the Maybelline eye really held the color/length/volume better throughout the day. In fact, it looked almost as great as when I first applied it, which I feel is pretty impressive for a mascara.
Another huge plus I found with this mascara is that although it lasted throughout the day, it was not hard to remove, nor was it irritating to my eyes. I do have very sensitive eyes (and I do mean VERY! I recently tried an Urban Decay mascara sample that literally made my eyes swell, and it took three days for them to go back to normal.. no joke! Also, I've never been able to use the Covergirl Lash Blast because it inevitably makes my eyes red.) This mascara didn't bother me a bit, and it was easily removed with just soap and warm water. Thumbs up for me!
If you're needing a great new mascara and you're looking for something somewhere inbetween the false-lashes look and the totally natural look, give this one a try, especially if you see it on sale!
As an aside, I have read quite a few reviews stating that this mascara gave quite a bit of clumping. I actually haven't noticed any clumping whatsoever, which is extremely rare for mascara for me, so I wonder if this is related to the application. I hold this near the base of the lash and kinda let it vibrate itself to the tip, and I actually just turn the vibration off for the bottom lashes, since I don't feel it's so necessary there.
That's my review for today! Let me know in the comments below if anyone has tried this mascara.
