Where did January go????

01/31/2009

I cant believe tomorrow is already February. Then again, it means its closer to summer.

Anyway, I figured I would write before the month was over just so I could say I did write something in January.

Work has gotten to be hell. Our corporate masters in their infinite wisdom decided to lay off one of the members of our team. There were four of us. Now there are only three. The guy they laid off had been with the company for 31 years. He had forgotten more about the business than I could ever hope to know yet that meant nothing to the bean counters. He did reporting for specific groups of people in the company. The remaining three seldom did any of that so now we have his work(which weve never really done) and our own work. Madness. They could have laid off our immediate boss, saved just as much money or more and not have affected productivity at all. But nooooo, cant lay off management. What sucks is that last summer they 'eliminated' the manager job for our group. They later brought in a director level person to be our 'manager'. For some reason after 3 months in the job she decided she wanted out and took another position within the company. At that time we had 5 people on our team. Around that time they took one of our team(no great loss, he was fairly new and didnt know enough to help us) and moved him to another team. That left us with 4 people, no manager and us reporting to an upper manager who had absolutely no clue what our group did. All he knew is that we filled requests for data from other areas of the company. What he fails to realize is that we are the only group in the company to be able to do this because we can access data from all over. Also because we can do this we are given many projects that cant be done elsewhere in the company. So, of course it made perfect sense to lay off one of our team. For those of us who remain the stress level is through the roof. Our team really needs at least 6 people to get our job done and to do the special projects and to create work flows to help us do our jobs better. Thats never going to happen. Sigh

My personal life is still non-existant. There are days I need to fight thru the lonliness. There are other days Im ok with it and start to think Im getting used to the idea of being alone the rest of my life. However, with work being like it is there are days I really, really need a hug and someone to talk to. Unfortunately my cats dont like to be hugged and they are lacking in conversational skills. So I just handle it the best I can.

I did do something interesting though. I joined the company bowling league. Mostly just to get out of the house one night a week. The league was created last year so this is their second year. It was created mostly by a group of people who know each other in some way. I dont know any of them so I still feel like an outsider. There were 4 new guys this year and they deciced to create a team out of us. I was ok with that. Well, before the season started one guy dropped out which left three. Our first league night one guy didnt show so we only bowled with two people. The guy that did show was fairly good. Unfortunately he hasnt shown up since. The guy that didnt show up the first week did show up the next two. Like me he has never bowled before. Unlike me he has no talent for the game at all. Im not great but Ive been averaging 135 which Im told isnt too bad. Last week we had a sub join our team. What a joke. He couldnt bowl worth a damn and kept disappearing when it was his turn to bowl. We were there at least half an hour longer than we should have been because of him. But like I said, it gets me out of the house on thursday nights. Im even buying my own ball, bag and shoes that should help improve my scores. Using the house balls is just a joke.

Ive started pricing my flights for my trip to the Bahamas. Yikes!!!! Over $600 round trip! Money is a little tight now with the market being like it is. Also, I wish I hadnt bought my car. I love it but I really paid more than I should have.

On the divorce front nothing has happened, obviously, or I would have told you already. I really need to do something this year if only to get my finances in order. I know the divorce will be costly but after that I know that all the expenses which eat in to my take home pay will be mine alone. If/When I do ask for the divorce I think Im going to ask for a lump sum payment from her just because. I think she will go for that otherwise if we split everything 50/50 she is going to lose a lot. Part of me doesnt like the idea of asking because I dont think I should profit at all from the divorce. Im still undecided. Sigh

The cats are doing well. Fat and happy. Im looking forward to spring. Im already sick of the snow and the cold. I want green grass and warm weather. Of course that means yard work but thats ok. This spring/summer I need to get the floor of the sunroom insulated. I will probably foam it and do it myself. They sell kits that arent too expensive. If someone else did it it would cost twice as much. I need to get under the house too and look at the insulation. I think there have been critters there eating or tearing up the insulation. Mice may even have gotten into the duct work. The house sits on piers on a cement slab with a skirt hiding the space under the house. Larger critters cant get in but mice and smaller critters can and there isnt much I can do to prevent that. I will have to check it out in the spring. Im just looking forward to crawling under the house with all the other creepy crawlies. LOL

Not surprisingly Ive been watching a lot of TV. Im looking forward to the competition shows on American Idol. I just couldnt take the audition shows this year. Im so glad LOST is back. Love that show. There are many other shows Im watching too that keep me occupied. Love House. Getting bored with Bones. CSI is interesting even with Grissom gone. I enjoy Criminal Minds. I love Fringe.

Ok, thats enough for this month. LOL I hope everyone is doing well. Its funny. Ive been thinking about some people that have left my life. My friend in Australia. I wonder how she is doing and if she is happy. There is also my friend in Maine. I hope she is doing well too. She always made me smile. I dont smile enough or laugh enough now. Mostly I spend energy on not crying. Sigh

when did Grissom leave? NOOOOOO! you do sound a bit stressed at work- I hate it whent hey let the powers that be make decisions on thigns they have no clue about. when all goes to hell- they just blame some other poor schmuck. good to hear you are getting out and about. I understand the being comfortable alone but needing someone around some of the time. I wish there was a "hire a hugger" company or something like that! i agree that Jan went way too fast- what is going on, surely the earth hasn't started spinning faster?
