Finally.
I was in grade 2 when I wrote my first story; I forget what it was about. But I do remember sitting behind the closed door of my bedroom, at my desk, feverishly scribbling down words on to a peice of lined paper.
My mom walked in, asked what I was doing and I lied and said it was homework. Even back than I kept my writing a secret. The next day I brought it to class, and for what ever reason (I can't remember) I showed it to my teacher, Mrs. Stevens. I remember reading it in front of the class and receiving a sticker as if it were to say, "Well done on your homework Meagan."
Since than I haven't been able to complete a story since. It's been 11 years since than; I must have written a hundred unfinished stories. But for 11 years I have wished that one day I could finish a story, have it published in my name for the world to see.
On Thursday, October 15 my first coloumn was in the paper. In the last page of the very first print of Brant News, underneath my headshot and my name was my article Invasion of The Niner Minors.
It's funny though, how I missed it the day I held the paper in my hands, flipping through the pages reading everyone elses articles, expecting mine to be up on the site instead of the print version. I had completely flipped past my article that day without a second thought. And to my dismay it wasn't until our video editor Mike, told me he liked my article that I realized finally!
Maybe not everyone who gets the paper will read it. Maybe not all of my friends will notice it but someone did. And to her I am grateful for. It was the first release of Brant News, and my article was in it! So maybe I am just the co-op student, maybe that doesn't entitle me to bragging rights. But just this once...I'd like to say out of all the very talented reporters/coloumnists at Brant News I was the only one who received an e-mail to the editor, personaly addressed to me, from a woman named Brooke who shared with me her first year experaince in high school. So yes, I'm a bit conceited and very grateful to you Brooke!
