I Remember

I remember when I was six or seven years old.
I remember laying on my blanket in the grass of the backyard.
I remember staring at white puffy clouds and trying to make out shapes from them.
I remember running up to Jared's house with my little red wagon.
It would be filled with bottles of bubbles.
I remember playing mortal kombat in his basement.
I remember roaming the woods behind my house.
I remember fishing with my babysitter's son and his son.
I remember being petrified of worms.
I remember I loved chasing friends around with snakes.
I remember watching thunderstorms in a cardboard box in the driveway.
I remember just laying there looking at stars, constilations, galaxies, before I knew their names.
I remember believing in Santa, Rudolf, and the Easter Bunny.
I remember my favorite place to hide durring hide-and-seek was in my parents laundry hamper.
I remember my dad singing to wake me up on the weekends.
"Lazy bones sleeping in the sun, how do you expect to get your days work done, never get your days work done, sleeping in the noon days' sun"

I remember listening to such things as Dave Matthews Band, Metallica, Spin Doctors, and James Taylor while dusting and doing house chores.
I remember my dog, Domino, and my cat Smokey.
I remember the old round kerosene heater.
I remember it's smell and the indent it made on the carpet from years of wear.
I remember being afraid of the basement in the dark.
I remember my parents fighting.
And the time my brothers friend broke the fire alarm in the hallway and it got stuck on "fire" mode and we all had to sit outside and wait for my dad to get home to take the batteries out.
I remember climbing onto the counter on St. Patty's Day so I could get the green food dye to make my dad's beer green.
I remember going swimming at White Sands.
I remember the day my brother had his motorcycle accident.
How his leg l0oked like it went through a shredder.
I remember hiding in my brothers room while my parents fought.
I remember falling asleep in his bed while he snuck out to do whatever.
I remember taking in baby Robins when they were injured and filling pinecones with peanut butter and seeds for squirrels.
I remember our vegetable garden and eating green beans right off the stock.
I remember plucking mint leaves to chew on or put in ice tea or lemonade.
I remember when my brother pushed me into a bottle and cut my arm open.
I recieved twenty-two stitches.
I remember when my thumb got stuck in my parent's car door and it was locked.
I remember my pinky nail ripping off cus the screen door swung open.
I remember it didn't come off completely.
I remember going to the doctors to have it removed and the nurse asking if I wanted Grape or Apple juice.
I chose apple.
I remember I loved this juice that was a pineapple orange something or other drink by Lincoln.
Does anyone even still remember that brand?

I remember my multi-colored elephant fluffaluff
and my stuffed animal Snoopy from Charlie Brown and the Peanuts Gang.
I washed him so many times his eye started to unravel.
I still have him.

I remember when my parents told me they were getting a divorce.
I remember I screamed and cried and locked myself in their bedroom.
I sat in their closet and cried.
I remember my father kneeling down and asking me who I wanted to live with.
I remember saying my mother cus she gave birth to me.
that still makes me laugh a little.

I remember hanging christmas tree lights all around my bedroom at my fathers house.
I had his huge stereo system in my room.

How I always thought it tasted funny.

I remember when I found out it was a real event, and not just a reoccuring dream.

I remember asking my mother what the plane's banner above the beach said.
I remember how she always told me it said "Eat At Joes"
no matter what it really said.
Funny, now they really do have a place with the slogan "eat at joes"
I remember where every floor board creaks under pressure there.
I remember my Uncle telling me alligators lived under the couch and that I had to jump to get on it.
I remember my Grandfather playing cribbage on the porch in the morning and the smell of fresh brewed coffee.
I remember when my uncle put his bullet proof vest on me and handcuffed me and it was too big.
I fell over and faceplanted myself on the cot and everyone laughed at me.
I remember looking down between the crack of the cot and wall and seeing a toy dinosaur.
It was blue.
I remember every year going down the temporary tattoo station and getting a pink flamingo.
I remember playing "who can touch the lightest" with my aunts boyfriend at the time, Dan.
How I'd always barely touch him.
And how he'd always punch me in the arm.
How I knew it was all a joke.
But I'd play it for hours.

I remember sitting on the beach in these little coushined chairs.
