Pregnancy Stuff | 10/25/2010 |
Just a quick entry before I have to go to work. I"m so excited.. The childbirth education center called me back, and I'm finally registered for classes! Yay! We're doing 3 Tuesdays in December, and the pricei includes one Saturday of other classes. I'm going to take a breastfeeding class while Tyler is at Daddy Boot Camp (I canNOT believe I talked him into this!) and then we go together to a Happiest Baby class... which is supposed to help with soothing techniques and helping baby sleep. Tyler thought the Daddy Bootcamp was going to be all cheesy, but the description says it's actually ran by guys, and goes over stuff like baby-proofing, financing, middle of the night feedings, and helping to support me (= So that's how I talked him into doing it.
I also got ahold of the prenatal yoga lady, and all I had to do was go up there when it started, go figure! Actually I have to get a note from my doc first saying it's okay for me to exercise, so it's good I got ahold of her first. But besides that you just have to show up and pay, then it's every Monday.. I'm pretty excited about that. I don't know if I'm going to start today or not though. I'll see if I feel like going up to the doctor to get a note after I get off work.
I also forgot to mention before that we went up to the hospital Saturday for a tour! It was fun, but kind of scary, seeing the hospital bed and everything. There was only one baby in the nursery.. i guess so many briths are planned nowadays no one randomly goes into labor on the weekends anymore, hah! I'm happy though, that the hospital is very good about supporting what we want to do as long as the pregnancy is healthy. Since I'm trying for natural, I'll want to move around a lot, and they have a tub in the room to labor in. They said as long as nothing happens where they have to monitor the baby then it's whatever we want to do. My dr is on board too, he just said the he strongly recommends signing the waiver for the epidural incase I change my mind, because if you're in too much pain some anesthesiolgists won't let you sign the document, becuase you're not "in the right mind," lol. He actually had that happen to a patient of his.
You know, I'm all for a plan b, but I don't understand what the big deal is. I mean, I know it's going to hurt, but women's body were made to give birth. It's been going on for thousands, millions of years, maybe. Has the creation of epidurals evolved a woman's body into not being able to ever handle the pain? That's not to say that I would consider myself a failure if I needed one, or even decided I wanted one, but I don't see any reason for me not to at least try.
ieesh.. gotta go to work though.. Oh btw my hubby said he's on board with whatever I want to do, a 2 wk or 4 wk notice. Bossman won't be here today though, so I still have until tomorrow to figure it out.

Here in the UK we only ask for consent for an epidural once a woman asks for one in labour. And we don't require written consent, just verbal. But I think Americans sue their doctors more than Brits do! Personally I think you're worth signing it and keeping your options open. I've met a lot of women who intend on managing without an epidural who change their minds once in labour, especially if the baby turns out to be OP (lying with it's back against the mum's back), which is extremely painful. So yeah, doing it without pain relief is great, but there's too many things (like the position of the baby) that you just can't predict!
