2008 becomes 2009...reflecting

01/01/2009

Its the first day of a new year. Makes me reflect on the past year. Seperating from my husband, being a single working parent, then becoming a full time student on top of that. I met a lot of milestones, got my drivers license, my own apartment. Went out and dated, made friends. I passed my first semester of college with B's. I've kept my bills paid, my life in order and am pretty much getting by. I started therapy, am on an anti-depressant and have realized that I don't need Ken in my life. That I was using needing stuff for Austin as a crutch to keep him close, but once i realized i didn't need ken and I could do it all alone I started enjoying life a lot more. I met Angela who I love with all my heart. With all the friends I've made though I feel I've let a few go that weren't healthy friendships. It saddens me some but knowing I've moved on the better things has helped me move on. 2008 was filled with heartache and anger but it was also a year that I gained my independence, realized who I am, decided that I like myself for me no matter how others think of me and took life by the horns and refused to let it beat me. So was 2008 a bad year? It started that way, and it took me 9 months without Ken to realize how much damage I let him do. And yes I said I let him do, because I could have walked away anytime. But in 2009 I'm stronger and smarter and in total control of my life. So 2008 might have been a hard year but it helped me grow into the person I am today.
