The Definitions of "Otaku"
Question of the Day: Are you an otaku?
TUESDAY
9th September 2014, 9.10 PM.
Hello, reader!
I have one of those sudden urges to write something again. Or to be more specific, to post something here. Ah well, it's just one of those random whims again, just because I posted a little entry yesterday.
Ever heard of the term "otaku"? Up until now, I've always assumed that it defined a person completely obsessed with anime. I wasn't completely wrong in my assumption. After doing a little bit of Googling, I found out that there are several different definitions to the term "otaku". An otaku can be a person completely obsessed with computers or a person who devotes his and her time and savings into a particularly favourable hobby or, as I had assumed, a person who is heavily obsessed with anime and/or manga. At one point, I read that a otaku is also apparently a person who likes to eat hot pockets...but I don't think that was actually confirmed.
Ooh, just found out something interesting
here. It seems that an otaku is usually referred to negatively by the Japanese as it usually defines a person who stays home all the time and has no life! Having nothing better to do, they will pass the time by watching anime, playing video games, or surfing the Internet! Hey, that really makes sense! Of course, there would be those who would read as well or take up other interesting hobbies (not everyone is obsessed with electronical entertainment, you know!), which will probably turn into obsessions in time. Otakus can also be referred to as hackers or programmers, and nerds as well, since usually the computer geeks are the ones who know how to hack and stuff, I suppose.
Ah well. Guess I'm not an otaku, after all. I do like watching animes nowadays (recently finished
Claymore and am picking up speed on
One Piece!) but I'm not that unhealthily obsessed!
...Maybe a little, considering the fact that I've been neglecting my studies just a liiiiiitle bit. But only a little! Besides, it's the holidays right now!

Yeah, and your exams are coming in like what, a month?]
Shut up, Star, you weren't even supposed to be here.
Thanks for reading! :3
