Novella? Novel?

08/15/2009

I am going to preface this entry by saying something. When I mention "work tonight", I mean Friday night-August 14th (not the wee hours of Sat, Aug. 15th). I just got home from work almost an hour ago and it is 3:15am. Enough said. Haha.

So...work tonight...where oh where do I ever start???

The last few days at work have been chaotic and busier than normal. I have been more tired than normal as well. Thus, my tired level has exponents that are off the chart! I worked a 4 hour shift yesterday and I felt like I had worked an 8-hour shift. I'm not even kidding. I think my body is still recuperating somewhat from the carbon monoxide poisoning I got at work last weekend. I could be wrong but those are my thoughts on it all. By the way, I do know I never mentioned that incident to you all until now. You'd think that was important enough to bloop about, huh? Haha. I'm fine and so is everyone else though. Don't worry about it. I can't change the past.

As for work tonight, I worked over a 8 hour shift and I'm twice as tired as last night. Imagine that. It was not a good night. From 4pm-11pm (-ish), we had a constant stream of people coming in or going through the drive-thru. It was chaotic with a capital "C"! While I was busy running around like a chicken with its head cut off, other incidents happened on the side...which I had to take care of.

**All the fountain sodas apparently lost their carbonation. I didn't take care of that one personally, but it was a complaint by a customer. I don't know what happened with that one.
**A little boy literally peed on our lobby floor. He was about the age of toilet training and the mother wasn't paying enough attention to notice that he was doing the potty dance...until he peed on our floor.
**Someone spilled something in the lobby. That didn't get cleaned up until lobby closed, by the way. I had no time to get out there to do it and I was the only one who could have done that job. Everyone else (on our skeleton crew) was busy otherwise.
**As soon as I got the lobby cleaned GOOD the first time, a crap ton of people came in and made an unholy mess in the lobby. I was REAL happy with them, let me tell you! (*overflowing sarcasm inserted here*)
**Someone clogged up a toilet with excessive toilet paper and someone else overflowed it while it was chaotic and I could not get away from the front register. Thus, it overflowed all over the stall's floor. That didn't get cleaned up, unfortunately, until lobby closed. I did unclog the toilet way before that though.

Toward the end of the night-long rush we had, I was literally walking around the kitchen area with a very mutinous expression on my face. I had a tired, "it's been a long day" deadpan expression on my face with customers though. I'm sure I looked like I was on the warpath in the kitchen though. I am part Apache afterall. (or so my Great-Aunt Celia says...)
Needless to say, I was not happy. I did get out of being on drive-thru for most of the night though. Haha.

I stayed after my shift for awhile so that I didn't have to contend with the drunk drivers on my way home. It was Friday night afterall. I'm sure I'll do the same thing tomorrow night as well. Rita is the manager tomorrow night (Saturday). I was getting pretty loopy and ornery toward the time I actually left work. We have new (and working) security cameras in the store that our store manager actually reviews. Well, she leaves notes on a public dry erase board for everyone.
One such note mentions that there are several suspects of theft (of stuff from walk-in refrigerater) due to the fact that they go in and come out empty-handed. One camera is positioned right outside of the walk-in exit. I came out with an empty box and was carrying it like I was trying to hide something. I walked a little bit then flipped the open side of the box out toward the camera and grinned widely. That was also when I showed the camera what exactly was in the box I was cradling to my chest....just air. HAHA. I'm such a geek. I did other silly things with the cameras also. Heather, the store manager is going to wonder about my sanity. Haha. I figured it would give her comic relief when she reviewed the tapes. She gets way too serious about them. I understand her predictament...but dude, relax some! Relieve some of that stress! Haha.

I was also disco-dancing in the lobby where my coworkers could not see me after hours. Haha. I'm pretty sure I was loopy to the core by that time. I was singing out loud with the music playing over the store's speakers as well. Oh well.

Hey, speaking of work and my managers (in my head anyway...it loops around to subjects a lot), please keep my manager Rita in your prayers. Her doctors found a tumor in her ovaries and some other health problems recently. It must be serious because they got her in for a biopsy on Aug. 18th. They JUST found this health issue with her. She also has other health issues. I believe they have to do with her heart.

ALSO, one of the customers (we call her "trouble" because she's ornery and plays along with it) found out she has cancer. Several of the regular "ornery old farts" (fun older men) came into work tonight too. I don't know what the deal was but there must have been a convention for them at BK tonight. Charlie is one such man. He always tries to get away with murder, but it doesn't work. He had a stroke awhile back. He seems to be doing really well, but he is obviously still recuperating. Please keep him in your prayers as well. I love my regular customers. Most of them are so much fun to be around at all times. They crack me up daily.

Kassey is in Kansas City at some dance convention this weekend or I wouldn't be online at this time of night. She would be online or would be sleeping. I'm using her internet connection on my laptop and that is located in her room. I'll leave her to tell the funny "alarm company" story that happened tonight. It's funny...especially from her viewpoint (if you include the background story from 2 years ago and such).

I got to talk to my Aunt Kathy, Aunt Laura Kay, cousin Josh, Aunt Bertha & Uncle George tonight. I merely called my Aunt Kathy and she passed me around. Haha. My Aunt Bertha and Uncle George are complaining for me regarding some BK payroll situations. I could've told them it was the "new" owners who took away the aforementioned situations. I think it will trickle down to them eventually anyway. I love my family. They are such troublemakers! Haha. I tried to get my Grandma to complain about the carbon monoxide situation, but I was foiled (no "mama bear" syndrome in effect). I definitely belong in my family. I like to cause trouble also. Haha.

Speaking of sleeping (see the loop?), I really need to be doing that. I need to get up extra early and go run annoying errands/get gas before work tomorrow. I am NOT looking forward to work tomorrow. In good news, I have sunday off. I've had last sunday and this upcoming sunday off...and that is IT in the past 2 weeks. 2 out of 14 days OFF...which is also partly why I'm so tired lately, I'm sure.

Okay, I'm really leaving now. This entry is long enough to be a novel already. And yes, that IS an exaggeration. (Don't try to correct that statement, Estella. Haha.) Bye everyone.--Robyn
