So I survived the sleepout. I actually got quite lucky. It was pissing rain all week which made me fear the worse. It was dry all day Friday and didn't start raining until about 4:30 am. I didn't actually get any sleep, mind, but there you go.
Still taking donations, by the way. Button on the bottom of this entry.
When I got home I put the stuff for the chilli into the slow cooker, switched it on and crashed. I woke up in time for the Grand National. I don't bet on horses, but the National is an exception. I tend to go with horses will cool names, local connections or family connections. Unfortunately, none of my horses placed high enough for me to win anything.
I'm booked on another training session for the Tour de Yorkshire. But it does mean travelling, so I've been buying the bus tickets.
New phone arrived Thursday! It's awesome.
Also, I'm getting a tax rebate! I thought I might be eligible, so I phoned them. They didn't say how much I would get, but using an online calculator it's looking like it'll be over £500. So, I've already spent most of it. Need a halogen oven (the oven on my cooker doesn't work), stocking up on food, probably keeping some money aside for a Friday 13th tattoo.
Speaking of, I gave blood again yesterday. After I had finished (didn't take long, I have good veins), the nurse was admiring my tattoos. She thought Asminov was cute, but didn't understand the rest.
So, that's me been vampired for at least five months (have to wait four months after getting new ink). I'm now on 38 donations so at this rate I may even hit my diamond donation.
I'm slowly getting caught up with my TV shows. Finished watching the first season of Billions, which was good. Thoroughly enjoying Quantico. And Orphan Black starts back this week. Can't wait, I love that show.
(Ooooh, I can finally get caught up with the comics! Might also get myself a Private Eye subscription as well.)
Apologies for not leaving many notes: I keep meaning to and forgetting.
Things are getting interesting over here politically. What with the EU referendum coming up (I got my Government sanctioned propaganda remain bullshit leaflet today), the Panama papers and the nightmare week for Call Me Dave, the budget fuck up, the junior doctors upcoming all out strike and the schools thing it's interesting to observe. Might do a full entry about that another time. Certainly deserves it.
Pics!
The Forth Road Bridge. In Middlesbrough. No, I can't explain this. Neither do I know what happened to the first three...
My bed Friday night (that I never actually slept in)
Me, looking up from the book I was reading (From those Wonderful Folk Who Brought You Pearl Harbor by Jerry Della Femina, in case you're wondering) and drinking my "blood" tea
Apart from doing something good for people who desperately need it, this view early in the morning makes the sleepout (donate using the button below!) worth it
The Tour de Yorkshire trophy was in Middlesbrough today. So I got a picture of it. (Turns out Sir Bradley Wiggins, first Brit to win the Tour de France and the current hour world record holder is taking part this year, so I'll see him whizzing past.)
Y? I dunno...
There's a story behind this. It's a model of James Cooks ship. (He's from this area). It used to be suspended from the roof in part of one of the shopping centres here. (It also used to freak a friend of mine out.) Then the place got remodelled and it had to come down. Now it's back until at least the Tour is done. A lesson in perspective: I genuinely had no idea it was anywhere near this big.
Considering the fact no-one would see it, the detail here is amazing. Craftmanship.
