So my 10K race in August got canceled/moved to a date that I can't make. So instead, I get 2 "race credits" (or a refund). Now I'm trying to think of what I want to do next.
I should preface that I'm already signed up for the Run 4 your lives race this october. (can't wait for this one!) I will also sign up for the warrior dash (wherever/whenever the next one comes around). But these are (only) 5Ks.
-----------------------------------
I'm thinking of signing up for a few "crazy" races. (and by "crazy" I will explain!)
One is race that just opened up to "civies". (Miranda-- tell david about this one!)
It's a race broken down into 2 parts:
1) a "pit" where you do a bunch of weight-lifting/aerobic type stuff... Box Jumps, Burpees (fuck burpees), kettle-bell swings, and thrusters (an olympic style lift).
2) The next part is a 7-mile mud-run through various obstacle courses.
low crawls (through barbed wire, i'm assuming)
ladder walls
high/low poles (fuck burpees!)
carrying objects (which is a surprise when you get there!)
river run
etc.
--------------------------------
The next one is called "tough mudder". This one seems harder just because it's
a) a half-marathon
b) up/down a ski-hill
c) in hellish weather conditions (the pics i saw were from winter)
d) where you have to go through various obstacles like:
climbing over a 12-foot wall
diving into an ice-cold lake
monkey bars (where some are greased)
running through these ropes of electric current hanging down (ZAP!)
carrying an "object" (the object is a surprise!) X miles.
e) only 78% of the participants finish. (on average).
-----------------------------------------
There are other "adventure races" where you have to
kayak
cave
navigate
bike
trek
hike
river-boarding (I actually don't even know what this is!)
rappel
etc.
There are even more races ("triathalons") where you have to carry a medical backpack with you at all times (along with a helmet and a sat-phone "for emergencies").... those kinda scare me. Or, at least, I'm not there yet. |
