(Apoligies for rushing half way through, I’m tired and wanted to post this)
Saturday… HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY DEVIN!
Saturday was my nephew’s first birthday. My twin Justin and his wife Lindsay went all out. They invited about 80 and 60 + came.
Lindsay is Portuguese. So she had ordered Portuguese food and my mom made calzones, sausage-pepper-onions and other things while Justin ordered pizza for the kids and people had brought dishes too. So needless to say, there was a lot of food.
The weather was disgusting. It was Texas hot. It was 100 + humidity. I stayed indoors, as did most of my family. Lindsay’s family mostly was outdoors. It was nice. First birthdays (I guess) are one of those special occasions where you see family members you haven’t seen since you were a kid.
After we mingled and ate, and mingled more, Justin had called us all down to the TV room where the cake was. The theme of the party was toystory. So there was this cake that had some of the characters and around the edge was stars and planets. It was pretty cool. (or I’m told lol) People were asking Lindsay where she got it. She said her cousin made it. They asked her if she does it for a living? She said nope, it’s her first time doing a decorated cake.
Justin had gift bags for the kids so he gave those out right before lighting the candles cause in the bag was party hats. We sang happy birthday…then they sang it in Portuguese.
It was pretty cool. We had cake. When it was just the immediate family, they opened the gifts. Devin got so much stuff. Clothes, toys, ride-along cars and toys and more ride along cars and more clothes lol.
*as a side note, Lindsay’s brother Nick was being immature, bothering his wife. At one point I said “do we have to separate you two?” and his wife said no, we’ll be ok. It drives me nuts when I see that and wonder how immature guys get beautiful-smart women? … He works for Ford as an auto-engineer. He doesn’t design cars but he over sees the production of them and she is a medical Doctor, juvenile oncology.
We took family pictures at the end of the party. It was very nice.
BON JOVI! WOO IT’S MY LIFE!
From the party, my mom and I went to the Bon Jovi concert at Gillette Stadium, the home of the New England Patriots. Opening up for them was the J gils band. My mom knew a few songs but since it was hot out, we stayed in the care for about half of their set. We got in and our seats were on the 3rd level. There was this really long ramp that seemed like went around and around and around… finally we made it to the 2nd level and my mom wanted to rest. She noticed that right next to where we were standing, was the handicap section and right in front of us, the last row on this level, was empty. My mom told me to sit down for now and if anyone kicks us out, we’ll move… no one came from that entire row for the night so we didn’t have to move. I was pretty happy about that.
Saturday night in Chicago, my sister’s football team playing for the rights to go to the super bowl in San Diego. The game started at 7pm. My mom was giving me updates from the team’s twitter page. I’ll say this, we won the super bowl 3 of the last 4 years and the year we didn’t win, we lost in the eastern final on a last minute play. This year, just like most games the last 4 years, we crushed our opponents. One game it was like 81 to 17. However, we were off to a quick deficit of 21-0 after the first quarter and we just could not catch up. I don’t think they were a better team, just a better team on this day. Because we had not faced anyone this year who gave of any challenge what so ever, I don’t think we were expecting this good of a team and when we did, it was too late.
I sent an email to my sister, telling her how sorry I was of their loss.
Back to the concert. It was not a sellout. The first time I saw Bon Jovi and it wasn’t a sellout. However, the people who were there, they were awesome. They were standing up for most of the concert and singing along and one song, actually sang the first two verses without John singing. That sounded awesome.
The other two stories from the concert, at one point, John was strutting across the stage like mcjagger then sang a mcjagger song. The women in the crowd went crazy.
John was wearing a t-shirt with a vest over it. 1/3rd through the concert, he took off the vest and the place went bananas. He was wearing a “Boston Strong” t-shirt. that was pretty awesome.

SUNDAY NIGHT ESPN GAME OF THE WEEK
THE BOSTON RED SOX VS. THE NEW YORK YANKEES
Just in case Saturday wasn’t enough excitement for one weekend, I went to the Red Sox-Yankee game with my friend Zac and his sister, Rachel.
CC vs Dempster.
What a game. The game lasted almost 5 hrs. It got over about 12:56. It started off really bad, as our defense had butter fingers. We had 2 costly errors, I think it was 3-0 at the end of the first with the yanks leading. However we chipped away at the lead with Nappoli hitting a 3 run home run putting us ahead4-3 and by the end of the 5th, we were up 7-3. However, the Yankees went on a scoring run, tying the game up at 7 in the 7th. We actually had to leave the game after 9, it was midnight and the people I went with, had to go to work in the morning. So while in the car, we listened to the radio and when I got home, I put it on the radio and the game was still on. We ended up using 7 pitchers. and in the bottom of the 11, 2 outs, Napoli ...crushed! a ball. went to dead center field for a game winning home run! the red sox beat the Yankees, 8-7 .
I went to sleep a happy Red Sox fan…GO RED SOX!
