Friday night I went to my college roommate's place for the weekend.
I took the train from Boston to his stop. It was about an hour ride, not bad.
Jeff's wife, Alicen and their twin girls, lyla and Katelin picked me up cause Jeff was working. . We went to their house. Alicen was going to Baltimore Saturday morning for a Bachelorett party-wedding shower. She was on the phone talking to people, complaining how much she has to do instead of just doing it. That drives me nuts. When Jeff got home, we talked about dinner and she was unsure if she could go, she had so much to do. ... she ended up not going for dinner.
We went to dinner at this home-town American type restaurant that has a salad-soup bar. I wasn't hungry so I had buffalo fingers and the salad bar. The girls had soup, salad and mac-cheese. Jeff had chicken parm sandwich. I told Jeff, if he pays for my dinner I'll pay for ice cream. We went to a fro-yo place for dessert. It was good. I had straw-razberry yoget with fresh fruits. it was very good.
Saturday, I got woken up at 6:58AM by the tickle monster. we had breakfast, Jeff made pancakes and sausage. It was very good. We went out food shopping. Jeff does NOT know how to shop. He looks at his list and goes and gets it then the next item on his list...even if it's on the other side of the store. Drives me nuts. Dragginy the girls and me around the store. We went home and had sandwiches for lunch. Jeff's father in law came over for a bit. I'm not too fond of him. He was in the army and I think he still thinks he is. Plus ok, he doesn't egknowledge me, and directs everyone what to do in a drill sarget manner. He also has a wicked temper. I've seen it before. hmm I know that at one point I went up for a nap. I didn't get much sleep thanks to the tickle monster.
We were going to the drive in movies for a Saturday night double feature. We were going to see Smurf 2 and something else. I was all excited. It was the reason I actually went to stay with him for the weekend. He told me they were going. He called another friend of his and asked if he wanted to go to the movies with us and his friend said yes. He has a 2.5 year old girl. So...I sorta felt like my company wasn't good enough but I couldn't say anything. So this guy brough his closed in pick up truck. Jeff sat in the way back and I sat in the front seat with his friend and the kids sat in the middle. I found that his friend felt I was unable to do anything. The girls were walking me around he kept saying to the girls be careful. I don't think that's a good idea. wait for jeff... If I have not said this yet, I should be saying this in every part, the girls did an awesome job of guiding me. They did not run me into anything, make me trip or fall down stairs. That's a lot more than I can say for either of their parents.
The movie was good . I don't think the girls really cared. They were more caring about looking after the baby and eating snacks. Jeff enjoyed what he watched. In between getting to the drive in and the movie starting, they were just talking while the girls was playing with the baby. I felt left out. Jeff asked me if there was a game on? so I just went into the car and listened to the game myself. We only stayed for Smurfs. The baby wouldn't sleep and the girls already saw the second movie.
If you grew up in the 80's, Smurfs is a must watch.
We got home and since we were all hungry, I didn't have anything at the movies, they had a lot of junk food. Jeff made himself and one of the girls grilled cheese while making me and the other twin chicken nuggets.
The twins and I share a favorite tv show. They enjoy FullHouse too. So we watched a bunch of epasodes. I was saying some of the lines before they did on tv or at the same time and one of them said "how do you know what they're going to say?" I told her I saw every episode about 100 times.
Sunday, We talked about things to do. I suggested minny golfing. The girls like that idea. Jeff wanted to walk around the flee market, they have not gone all summer. The girls didn't want to so he brived them. ...And then he got a text from a friend saying that they were going to a pool asking if Jeff wanted to take the girls over. Jeff asked the girls what they would rather do, knowing they would rather go swimming. His friends has 4 kids all around their age. Jeff told me that his friend is house sitting a coworker's house who has a pool. So not only are we going to a pool, which I didn't want to do, especially not with 6 children. I wasn't going to go in the pool, it would be too crouded and I would end up standing in the corner. plus it's hanging at a stranger's house who wasn't even home. awkward. I did meet his friends new years eve, but it wasn't like I knew them. So again, Jeff invited me and then I end up sitting in a chair the 2 hours we were there. Jeff came over to me twice, just to ask me if I was sure I didn't want to go in. To me, the watr was cold. so that was my reason for not going in to him.
We left there, we were going to meet my father half way, in the parking lott of a hotel. We stopped at DND and I bought munchkins and drinks for all.
We got to the hotel, my dad was already there, waiting. I got my hugs from the girls and jeff and that was the end of the weekend.
It was a nice weekend but a lot of awkward moments.
I do give Jeff a lot of credit, the girls can be two hand fulls.
Jeff was telling them college stories. One story was our freshman year, we went around for Halloween. (in old Salem, so salem was extremely busy, you are not allowed to drive a car in Salem on Haloween) He told me to hold on he would be right back, he put my hand on a pole...30 minutes later he remembered me and I was still there.
I thought he was going to tell them the Halloween story of our sofemore year. So I asked him if I could tell them that story. I gave them the long story, I'll give you the short story... I dressed up as a girl that year, borrowing my sister's clothes and having a lady from my floor do my make up for me. They thought it was funny.
We told the story of how we met, told them stories of baseball games and how I increased his knowledge of chinese food beyond chicken fingers, rice, and ribs.
This entry could have been written a lot better. I'm sorry. just didn't feel like writing |
