I've been meaning to post about this past weekend for a bit because i had an interesting one.
Saturday evening i went to a Sumbel it's a Norse.... i guess tradition is the best word, though i'm not sure it's accurate.
the notion is that a group of people (ideally Norse but not always, as in this case) sit in a circle and pass a horn of mead around, though again in our case we didn't pass it around due to germs and such, as well not everyone wanted to drink the mead.
in any event, we sat in a circle, we toasted the Gods, toasted our heroes and ancestors, made other toasts, boasts and some even took oaths. And many stories were told.
to say it was an amazing time would be like describing the ocean as wet, technically correct but wholly inadequate to describe the depth of it.
It was like family, and i have an interesting counterpoint to that, because my family being Greek Orthodox celebrates Easter at a different time from the rest of Christendom so i had Easter dinner the following day, and it really was like two family gatherings in a row.
I think i'll leave it at that to offer further description i think wouldn't do it justice, and may in fact diminish the experience, i am however looking forward to bringing some friends next time....
good night and good luck!
