The night before Christmas 2010
12-24-2010
Jonathan

(I hope everyone has a merry Christmas)

It was the night before Christmas
There is laughter heard, all through my house
Not a person was quiet, definitely not my aunt Sarah, wearing a red blouse
There was no stocking hung, but plenty of menischewitz wine there
And a lot of friends and family gathered here

The children were playing on the WII
While visions of high scores danced in their heads
While my mother brings out another tray of pickies
And I sit on my new Red Sox chair relaxing, I wish there was latkes

from in the kitchen my twin brother arose with a loud chatter
For the University of Miami won, I thought my mom dropped something that splattered
Miami’s d held the Fighting Irish
For it was certainly my twin’s wish

But then, to the wonderment of all
My older brother calls
He was sorry he could not make it, something about a mix of snow and rain there
With a little known horn, so loud and quick
I knew it was my best friend John, picking me up to go for Chinese food

More rapid than horses, the horn came
I said goodbye, calling my little cousin a name

Now, on dumpling, on Teriyaki, and spring roll
Spicy veggies and noodles but first hot and sour soup in a bowl

From the top of the stairs, the top of my lungs
Goodbye goodbye goodbye to all

Down the walkway it was an obstacle, carefully I tried
With snow falling from the sky
Up to Su Chang’s we flew
John was hungry, for Chinese food, I was too

And then on the radio we both heard
The Red Sox signed another all star, I was so excited, I could not say a word
As I drew in a breath, and my thoughts stopped spinning around
Before I knew it, Chinese food is what I found
I was still feeling giddy, from my head to my toes
Is this going to bring us another championship? Who knows

Taking my jacket from my back
John had ordered enough food to feed the soldiers in Iraq
His eyes so wide, his stomach so hungry
Filling our cups with hot Chinese tea
He was hungry, not like a little elf
He was a bit snappy, I laughed in spite of myself
But with the smell of our food and it being served on my dish
I had nothing to worry about, John got his wish
He spoke not a word but the food went right to his lips
Water he drank down and The still hot tea he would sip
Placing a finger on his nose
For he had an itch
The food went down without even a whistle
You’d think we were being bombed with a huge missal
But then I heard him exclaim as we got the check
He had to get home, Kat was probably a wreck
He dropped me off and out of sight
I didn’t get to wish him a merry Christmas, oh well, I’ll speak to him tomorrow night
